I came here for both lunch and for evening cocktails, despite not staying at the hotel. It is just the only cocktail bar in the area, and we were looking for something other than beer or wine.
Firstly, the lunch was pretty good. Coffee wasn't great, but it is what it is at a hotel. I was dying to try their take on a francesinha, mostly since I don't like it usually but this elevated version seemed more tolerable, and actually quite creative. I will say, it was definitely better than the typical, traditional one. Really nicely presented and made. Even the couvert was savoury and delicious. The desserts were okay. I loved the idea, but I wasn't totally convinced that the flavours were all that different.
The next day, we returned for cocktails because it had looked so enticing over lunch. And the staff, like most hotels, were exceptionally talented in hospitality, and friendly too.
Other than the terrible choice of small black text on deep red paper, the menu was fascinating. Loved the concept of it. They really put a huge amount of thought into each drink and the story and region it represents. Essentially, it is a menu for you to voyage through Portugal, with all the tastes and feelings of the various places it represents. They take great care to consider the flora especially. The trees, the sea, the vibes. It's a great menu to read in depth, if you can. (Again, the red paper makes it difficult. Especially in the low light of evening.)
Some of the cocktails were a little too focused on presentation and being really TikTok-friendly, while their flavors weren't quite there. Others were really well-crafted drinks that didn't require all the drama. Some are nicely in the middle and have great presentation and great taste.
For a hotel bar, especially a hotel basically in the middle of a residential neighbourhood not in the centre of the city, it was quite impressive. Significantly better than other much more expensive and central hotel bars in Porto. I would say it is worth it to take a small metro ride here if you're looking for unique cocktails with a serious focus on Portuguese history, flavours,...
Read moreI only popped into the bar for a quick gin before I flew out early the next morning, but I am so glad I did. I travel frequently for work and have a lot of g&ts in hotel bars, and it’s incredibly rare to find staff so passionate, knowledgeable, and creative. And such a GORGEOUS space. Once the staff realized I was into gin and creative cocktails, they poured me a tiny dram of “the best Portuguese gin” and WOW were they correct. They also took pleasure in showing me the different cocktails on their menu and the amazing serving glasses. I was sad to not be able to stay for another, but truly can’t wait to return! Muito...
Read moreWe walked past this hotel multiple times after leaving the Lapa metro station. Today we decided to stumble into the bar and take a chance on it. We are so glad that we did. Diogo P took care of us at the bar splendidly. The O Nosso Porco a Algarvia was outstanding. One of the best meals we have had in Porto. The last had Sem Cupla and was very well pleased. We both had lovely drinks. I had the chocolate mousse for dessert. She had one of the most interesting desserts I’ve had in years. It was a pear compote with katamala tapenade alongside a cheese mousse. Divine. This restaurant is highly recommended. We...
