The only food item they sell is Pastel de nata(egg tarts). As of October 2024, it was €1.30 each. I ate two in store, and another two a couple of hours later back at the hotel. Comparing the ones which I ate in store, the crust was a bit harder than the egg tarts at other stores. The custard was soft and sweet. I think Castro has a softer, thinner and flakier crust. Castro’s egg tart gave you the desire to have one more. Manteigaria’s egg tart was good in its own right but just didn’t create the moreish desire that Castro’s egg tart had. I would give Castro the edge.
The store is nicely renovated and has standing space for customers to consume their egg tarts on the spot.
There is a perpetual queue for this shop but it is a “manufactured” queue. The queue moves very slowly for a shop selling only one item. While I was there, there were 4 counter staff. One just focused on handling the payment, second one was taking order and packing the order, third one was only handling drinks and the last one was busy with admin(?) tasks. Most of the time the other three staff are just standing around and waiting for the person that is packing the order since payment is a quick process and relatively few people order drinks. This is causing the bottleneck. There would be virtually no queue if there were two staff, instead of only one staff, packing the order. Not sure if this is intentional by the store to create the queue.
Overall, an enjoyable treat but owner can improve on the...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the service I received at your store this morning. My experience was nothing short of appalling, and I feel compelled to bring these issues to your attention.
Upon entering the store, I was met with an unwelcoming and offensive attitude from the staff. They displayed a complete lack of courtesy, and decisions were made without consulting me. This lack of professionalism was evident when my order was handled without my input.
Furthermore, after requesting a receipt, I noticed that I had been overcharged. Despite this clear mistake, not a single staff member offered an apology or attempted to rectify the situation. What made the situation even more troubling was the apparent disparity in treatment. While the staff was rude and dismissive towards me, they were noticeably polite and accommodating to other customers. This behavior felt discriminatory and unacceptable.
One individual in particular, named Marlene, stood out for her particularly poor conduct.
Overall, this experience has significantly marred my otherwise wonderful time in Porto. I hope that you will address these issues promptly to prevent other customers from enduring...
