Amorino Gelato - Porto Santa Catarina — Restaurant in Porto

I love the gelato. It was incredible. Gluten free cone and all. This review isn’t about that but the service I received. I debated on writing something but it stayed with me so deeply I felt the need to write it here. It was simply unacceptable.

Tell your staff (two guys that look like twins or brothers — in this case it was only the one brother/coworker. The other worker actually stood up for me after his coworker wouldn’t stop and I appreciated it. Near the Rua sao bento da Victoria location to be clear, around 10-11pm) unnecessarily rude and mean. I don’t need to be bullied when I’m out on vacation just getting gelato with my wife. I was made fun of and he kept saying the flavor I chose wasn’t gluten free and made it really confusing and unpleasant for no other reason than his amusement, saying it was sarcasm. If that was “sarcasm”, it was the most blatantly mean and distasteful and unobvious sarcasm I’ve ever received. I wasn’t laughing. My celiac disease isn’t funny or a laughing matter. I was under the impression everything was gluten free but was really worried he was trying to get me to eat gluten or didn’t understand me and I was panicked. It’s not funny, it was cruel. I previously gave the other shop a terrific review because we believed we had eaten vegan macaroons. We were told the mango and raspberry were the only vegan flavours so we chose them. We came to this shop and were told the same so had more a few days ago.

Really enjoying what we thought were vegan treats, we visited Amorinos for a third time, only to be told none of the macaroons are vegan. We explained we do not eat meat or dairy and were disappointed we had been mislead into eating dairy, with very little acknowledgement or apology from the staff.

I would not recommend eating here if you are on a specific diet as the staff do not seem well trained and don’t understand dietary needs and how important that is to people. God help you if you have allergies!

We sat down to have breakfast with croissants and coffee. We noticed a menu board at the entrance of the shop offering menus with orange juice, coffee, and croissants. The gentleman working there was polite and attentive. We ordered from this menu. Unfortunately, the croissant was stale and very bad. The coffee was also not good at all. I couldn't have given an answer if you had asked me before how such a simple menu could be served so poorly, but now I can show this shop as an example.
