Taberna Asiática — Restaurant in Porto

Taberna Asiática is a cozy little spot well located in Foz, with a warm and family-style atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive — we felt welcome throughout. The waitress was very polite, though she spoke in a voice so low it became a bit amusing, but that didn’t affect the overall experience.

We visited mainly because of the glowing online reviews, especially for their Pad Thai, which we often enjoy and consider a benchmark dish in Asian cuisine. Unfortunately, the version we had was not up to expectations. While beautifully presented, it lacked the depth of flavor we associate with a traditional Pad Thai: no balance of sweet, salty, and umami — instead, it was overwhelmingly acidic and very spicy, with too much lime and little of the coconut or fish sauce notes that usually define the dish. Maybe we came on an off night or there’s been a change in the kitchen.

Another surprising detail: no Portuguese beers on the menu, despite the excellent local options. Also, the beer we were served was not properly chilled — something that could be improved.

Overall, it’s a pleasant place with kind staff, but we feel the food (at least the Pad Thai) is slightly overrated based on our visit. Hopefully, these comments can serve as...

Unfortunately this was a bad experience. I really think it has potential and maybe we were just unlycky this time. If anyone had their first day at work I do apologize if the review is to harsh.

We had to ask for the menu after being seated, as we were forgotten/they were busy. The appertizer was late, wich they apologized for. The dumplings tasted amazing and we had high hopes for the main course. This also was a long wait, and I finished my wine long before being served. Then we had to ask for cutlery… The pad thai tasted like the ocean, only salt.. Worst pad thai I have had. I wanted to ask the waiter if maybe something was wrong with the food and perhaps order something else, but they never came to check on us. After the meal we waited a long time to pay. We stacked the dishes together but still no one showed up. In the end we again left our seats to ask.

This restaurant has great food. High quality ingredients that you can taste through each dish. I wouldn’t recommend the ramen- noodles desperately needed salt and the broth/nood ratio was off. The sushi is amazing!! The service was subpar. We ordered a bottle of wine- server forgot to bring it. We asked for it and I saw he gave us an open bottle from the bar. Didn’t give us a chair for our bottle or a cooler for the wine…?? We looked around and every other table had those services.
