I went to this place yesterday because it was recommended by Lonely Planet. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a horrible experience on all counts. Not only did the fish make me sick all night; not only was the server rude and forgetful (I had to remind her of my order twice, at 30-minute intervals, which shouldnโt have surprised me, considering she didnโt write anything down when she took my order) โฆ the worst part was payment. These people have no intention of paying taxes so theyโve come up with an elusive mechanism whereby you can only pay cash, with a โfriends & familyโ transfer on PayPal, or with a Revolut transfer that does not come with a receipt. In addition, when I pointed out that theyโd charged me more than they should have (the price for a fish dish shown on the menu was lower than that they wanted to charge me), instead of apologising and offering a discount, which would have been the professional thing to do, the server called the owner to have them โauthoriseโ charging me the right price โฆ absolutely bonkers, also considering that the bill was 66 euros for a single patron, so not exactly a negligible amount. This place does not deserve Lonely Pianet. I will be emailing the authors of the guide and the publisher to that effect and Iโll report the owner to the Portuguese tax authority. I encourage all others whoโve been scammed to...
ย ย ย Read moreThe service was really friendly and we started our visit with a good feeling. We bought 2 glasses from a fine old porto which cost 16 euro for a glass. They served the glasses on top of a plastic placemat. It was very windy and the wind caught under the placemat and threw one glass over, luckily we where able to catch the second glass before it went over but I wasnt able to even take one sip from the destroyed glass and the contents flew all over my girlfriends clothes. The staff was very helpfull in cleaning it up and told me they would bring another glass. However this glass never came. I understand it was an expensive drink but they should have offered a solution. I would have been fine with a cheaper drink to replace the one thrown by the wind or I would even be okay with paying for a new glass in full. But they didn't offer any solution at all which left me without a drink. If a solution was offered we would have stayed there for some more time and would probably have spent around 100euro or more enjoying the view. Now however we opted to pay the bill (32euro for 2 glasses) and left with a bad feeling. I don't think the waitresses where at fault but management should have stepped in to resolve the issue. It's a shame this was handled...
ย ย ย Read moreThis place was one of my boyfriend and my highlights when we were visiting Porto.
There are about 16 seats available outside facing the Douro River and more inside. No reservations are taken which I believe is a fair system - first come, first serve.
The selection of wine and tapas is perfect for a sundowner or dinner while watching the sunset. Even if youโre not very hungry, do yourself a favour and order the bread with some tomato or olives. The bread is served warm and fresh and you will find yourself ordering another serving.
Even though the place was completely booked, all girls working on staff that evening were absolutely pleasant and always took the time to walk us through the wines and give us their recommendations. We asked them to choose six different wines for us and each of them were spot on.
Thank you for a wonderful evening and we will definitely be back the next time...
