Beautiful hotel with stunning views from the river view room. Bed was very comfortable, on-site staff was kind & attentive, and location was great for the things we had planned.
However, for the 2 nights we stayed there was an issue with the a/c unit not working properly each night. We called to see if someone could take a look and only the after hours security was available (they were very kind). After being in the room for a few minutes, security starting sweating b/c IT WAS THAT HOT.
Out of sheer luck (security shared these sentiments) the a/c magically started working again after 20-25 mins of troubleshooting potential fixes, but then it went out again on night two and could not be fixed. We were offered to move rooms on night two but declined b/c we wanted to enjoy the views at sunrise (that’s the reason we paid the higher rate for the best room) & no one clarified if we'd receive a discounted rate for the move. We were also surprised no one came to check on it day 2 since the staff stopped us in the morning saying they saw the notes from the previous night?
We told the staff during checkout about the issue…again, and was only offered a transfer to the train station which we also declined b/c it cost us 4 euros taking a Bolt??? We were told they would get back to us by the end of the day if they could offer any other compensation only to be told there was nothing else they could do.
We were quite shocked that the Exmo would not compensate us for the a/c issue considering we had to endure 29-32 C temps for 2 nights. I’m asthmatic with IIH so I had to sleep with a cold towel to keep cool and had a very hard time breathing. We only asked for a partial discount off one of the nights or a voucher for a night to stay again as we had every intention too.
For such a high class hotel, they missed the mark with addressing the situation and offering a fair resolution for their maintenance issues. We completely understand things happen outside of anyone’s control but what you can control is how you make it right and that didn’t happen. We've since wrote an email (as we were told we could) about the situation and never heard back. Unfortunately, due to this we would not...
Read moreWe stayed two nights in Porto at the Exmo Hotel. It is highly rated so I am very disturbed with what happened there. After our first day out in Porto, I returned to change for dinner and looked for the necklaces I brought with me. I had 3 or 4 necklaces (I don’t remember which because it was at the beginning of our trip) wrapped in tissues with the ends hanging out (pendants, etc). I couldn’t find them. I had placed my earrings and other jewelry in the safe but in my haste to leave in the morning I left the necklaces on the desk.
I spent an hour looking everywhere and concluded they had been stolen. When we checked out the next day, the General Manager, Carlos Freitas came to our room to discuss the missing necklaces with me. He seemed genuinely concerned, which later on turned out to be a ruse. We were in a hurry to leave to go back to the Lisbon Airport to rent a car and start our journey around Portugal. Carlos asked if he could search my suitcase. Under less harried circumstances I would have said yes but we were trying to check out and my suitcase was packed and closed. He said he would talk to the housekeepers who cleaned our room. I told him I would let him know if I found the necklaces among my things later during the trip.
I didn’t. When I got home I emailed Carlos. He told me he had talked with the housekeepers and they didn’t know anything about the missing necklaces. Duh. Like he expected they would be honest about it. He accused me that I might be lying about the necklaces, which was incredibly offensive. I asked him for a refund and he stopped emailing me.
Please if you stay here, be sure to lock up all your valuables! I was so surprised that this happened at such a highly rated hotel. It was really disappointing and Carlos’ lack of trying to compensate me in any way showed a lack of integrity that went so far as for him to say I didn’t have proof that I even had any necklaces. Of course I didn’t take a photo of them on the desk! I didn’t think such a thing would happen. Beware if...
