A Ratoeira — Restaurant in Setúbal

Had lunch when visiting Setubal. Restaurant located at corner of street and had name above door front but could easily miss it as nothing at door to indicate it is a restaurant. No menu, the owner showed you the seafood fish, clams, crab he had that day in his glass case and you pick what you want. It goes by the kilo. Owner did not speak English and they don’t grill here. The Garoupa was cooked with clams in noodles or rice. We had that with noodles and a hairy crab. Both were very good. We ordered two glasses of white wine and he brought a bottle and we drank it all (only €7.50). He opened a can of sardine with bread, wasn’t sure if it was for our sampling as we did not order sardine but it was so tasty (not fishy at all) I ate it all and paid for it €4.50. We got charged for the bread too, guess over here, if they serve it and you eat it, you pay for it. Luckily everything was so reasonable, we did not mind. The chili sauce he served was very good (be warned it is spicy!)...

Don’t mistake this dump for what it once was. This place is no longer that amazing spot ran by the gentle and friendly older gentleman. We were extremely disappointed with whatever foreigner that’s purchased this place and had nothing on the menu, told us the only thing we’d be able to have. Terrível, fomos jantar em família na véspera de ano novo e foi uma experiência muito má. O restaurante não tinha praticamente nada para servir aos clientes pois diziam estar fechados nos próximos dias. Não tinham capacidade de resposta para os pedidos das 20 pessoas que tinham no restaurante. A sapateira que nos serviram vinha seca, sem querer estar temperada. Quando pedimos camarão ao alhinho a responsável pelo restaurante disse-nos que dava trabalho e demorava tempo, que devíamos ter encomendado antes um arroz de tamboril uma vez que queríamos mais comida. Não tenham mais coca-colas 0, não tinham sobremesas, num dia de festa… inadmissível! E antes das 22:00 começaram a despachar as pessoas pois também queriam ver o fogo no rio… Acho que nem sequer deviam ter aberto num dia destes uma vez que não tinham nem queriam ter capacidade de resposta. Pagamos 479€ por 4 doses de amêijoas à bulhão pato, 2 sapateiras e 2 santolas e 10 camarões tigre e 4 bitoques,...
