Copa Douro — Restaurant in Setúbal

I had a table reserved for 19.00 - the opening time. When I arrived on time I was made to wait at the entrance for several minutes despite the fact that the table was ready. I had grilled swordfish which was prepared properly. The side dish was boiled potatoes which arrived almost 10 min later. The house white was acceptable. The meal was alright but nothing exciting. The restaurant is a deceitful tourist trap. I have been traveling for many years and in general I try to avoid places like this. I hate places where waiters are pushy and try to up sell all the time. I should have walked out the minute the waiter took me to the fish display and began to tell me what I should order. The second thing is that they put appetizers on tables which many ( especially people from the US) could consider free complements, and then charge absolutely insane priced - I paid 3.50 for 2 packs of prepackaged supermarket butter, and 3.50 for prepackaged supermarket pates. Their desert menu consists of frozen supermarket items. And they charge a pretty price for them. I will not recommend going there....

We came across this place when we were searching for restaurants that offer seafood as well as other dishes. I find it weird that there is no price list or menu for the drinks. We asked for one and they brought us the wine menu only. Don’t know if that’s the policy over here but it’s putting you off when you cannot see how much it costs what you are drinking. Otherwise prices were ok. I wouldn’t recommend touching the stuff on the table like olives, ham, cheese, crackers and so on. It will cost you double. Just ask the waiter to take them back. We had the soup of the day which was a delicious pumpkin cream and also ordered the fish soup. They were both flavorful and very tasty. We then tried the fried cuttlefish - choco frito com guarnição - and the beef steak in pepper sauce. Both dishes were very good with just the right amount of seasoning. It’s a pity we had a few bits not properly fried. The service was alright, could have been more friendly we came just an hour and half before the closing so maybe they were...

Ordered octopus and prawn rice, arrived, lacking flavour, extremely difficault to eat as its so chewy and hard. Had two spoons to give them benefit of the doubt, asked for the manager, she came and said when it is chewy and hard, its fresh, hmmmm really??? I offered to pay for my drink and starters but not that main which was 18euros as it was awful, she was extremely rude and threatened to call the police, then called the POLICE:) WOW! first time for everything! Her waiter came and threatened me, swore at me in portuguese, Told me out Loud... YOUR IN PORTUGAL SO YOU BETTER SPEAK PORTUGUESE AND CALLED ME SWEAR WORDS INFRONT OF OTHER CUSTOMERS.
