My husband and I are retired seniors in our 70s and 80s from the San Francisco Bay Area in the United States. We are world travelers and foodies. Japanese and Asian food are one of our very top favorites. While touring Setúbal, the little charming seaside town used to be a major fishing village and famous Portuguese sardine/tuna canning base, we walked by Yoshiki Sushi at almost the end of the lunch hour and decided to give it a try. It turned out to be yet another highlight of our mini weekend trip to the area! The high quality of the miso soup (homemade from scratch) and varieties of sushis and sashimis let us to talk with the chef/owner Tilak, a Nepalese who worked years in five-star hotels in Dubai and other European countries and learned all the techniques, tricks, and secrets from the top chefs about sushi making and other Japanese/Asian dishes before he finally saved enough money to start his own venture in Portugal. His efforts to strive for high quality food go by these orders: safety, freshness, taste, and presentation. Particularly with Japanese cuisine, which usually involves with raw fish, he definitely got that right, and executed faithfully. If you had the same dishes with the same presentations in an elegant dining room in Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton (with more expensive plates though), you wouldn’t feel any mismatch. That’s how we enjoyed Tilak’s dishes. We’ve tasted sushi all over the world from Michelin stared restaurants to hole in the wall street shops. Thanks to Tilak and his wife Susie, very kind and hardworking couple, for bringing beautiful international food for the locals, as well as travelers. For anyone who enjoys sushi or craving for quality Japanese food at very low cost, Yoshiki is worth the driving or going back for from...
Read moreI was in Setúbal and I've seen good reviews about the food in this sushi place, so I decided to give it a try, since I wanted to eat some fish.
I got there and I asked the owner about 2 pictures I've seen on the review section of Google. Those were 2 fried kinds of sushi. When I said that I wanted them both, the owner told me, in a tone that seemed to me like to "what are you doing?" "The first one is fried. The other one is fried too". I said that I wanted the first one, 8 pieces, then I looked at the menu and told her that I wanted 4 pieces of that dish. She told me "only 4?" using the same tone as before. I said yes, because I wanted to order 4 pieces of another dish and 4 gyoza. She then looked at me in a strange way, very surprised, that I ordered tap water, and a Coke Zero. The food was very tasty, but the owner seemed annoyed when I asked for more water. She later came to check if everything was okay, but always with a bothered tone. I enjoyed the food but I felt uncomfortable...
Read moreThis was the most intimate special restaurant and the most random find but the sushi was fresh and delicious. The service was unbelievable and the staff we so so kind and accommodating. We were allowed to charge our phone behind the counter and were kept comfortable the entire time. We were two people and shared two combos and it was MORE than enough food and it’s always a bonus when it arrives on a boat !
Would highly recommend this adorable hidden gem in the beautiful alleys of Setubal to anyone. The atmosphere is amplified by the warmest street lights and washing lines through the alley. Truly a special little place run by magnificent...
