Ring the chimes and chime the bells. You just found a place that should be a must on any Sintra list. What makes this place so special? you are asking correctly. On one hand it is an old establishment, a typical traditional Portuguese cafeteria: lots of delicious pastries, strong bitter espresso, old fashioned design, vegetable soup and strong local vibe. Locals visit this place regularly. On the other hand: the welcoming and prompt English speaking service, the crazy good salads (do not miss the salads!), the wraps and burgers, makes this place one of the best in the region. The place has lots of parking but be careful the road is narrow and busy going to and from old sintra. You must visit this place. I added a picture of the chicken (“frango”) salad. My favorite. If you come at lunch time prepare to have to wait for a table.

Variedad impresionante !! Una dulzura de sitio!!

After receiving a recommendation from a friend that used to live in the local area we checked out Casa do Preto in Sintra. Which offers a cozy, authentic dining experience with traditional Portuguese dishes and a welcoming atmosphere. The menu features hearty options like grilled meats and seafood, all prepared with fresh, local ingredients. We especially loved the famous **travesseiros** (almond cream-filled pastries) and **queijadas** (cheese tarts), which were so delicious we took extra to go. The prices are reasonable the staff were kind. It's definitely worth a visit, you won't be disappointed. The recommendation paid off for us and I'm sure it will for you too.

RACIST PLACE: STAY AWAY!!!!

As a global society, we have made strides towards creating a more inclusive and respectful world. It is disheartening when an establishment such as "Casa do Preto" blatantly disregards the importance of this progress, opting instead to employ an offensive term for its moniker, a term that is likely to offend many, but especially those of African descent and Black Portuguese.

Upon first seeing the name, I found it shocking that any business, especially in this day and age, would choose a name so steeply immersed in racial insensitivity. Given that names are the first impression one gets of an establishment, this is not only in poor taste but reflects a lack of understanding and respect for diverse cultures.

In visiting the restaurant, I hoped to find that the owners had somehow rectified this unfortunate choice of name by creating an atmosphere that fosters understanding and embraces diversity. However, to my disappointment, this was not the case. Instead, the restaurant, in its ambience and decor, continued to reflect the ignorance indicated by its name.

It's crucial to stress that food, an essential part of culture, has the potential to unify and educate. It is, therefore, a missed opportunity when an eatery opts to alienate certain patrons rather than inviting them into a space of shared enjoyment and mutual respect.

To any potential patrons reading this, I strongly urge you to consider the impact of supporting a business that so clearly lacks the basic understanding of respect and inclusivity in its operations. It's not just about food, it's about principle. In this era, we should be promoting businesses that reflect the inclusivity and acceptance we aspire to see in the world.

In conclusion, "Casa do Preto" leaves a bitter taste, not from its cuisine, but from its palpable disregard for racial sensitivity. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this establishment to anyone. It is my hope that the owners reconsider their branding and take a hard look at the impact it has on potential customers and the wider community.

Until then, there are countless other establishments that celebrate diversity and inclusivity with not only their names but also their service, food, and overall ambiance. Seek them out. They deserve...

I think this place has been overrated for a while, but recently I attended with a friend and sat outside where I was told there was no table service outside by a member of staff. I went inside to order and the lady at the till said there was table service and i misinformed. So i ordered 2 latte and 2 toast, went outside to the table and waited. 15minutes later went inside to make sure that my order was actually not forgotten and it was sitting on the counter, 2 latte and 1 toast, i carried them to the table already cold but i didn't have the energy to argue so i just ignored it. Came back inside to get the second toast and a lady at the till looking seriously confused and completely incapable of speaking Portuguese tried to tell me that i only ordered one but she would order the second one now. At this point i got my friend and left. 500meters to the right there is a place called Natalia, we went there instead and worked...

Obrigado...
