The worst experience we've had in all of our 4 trips in Portugal. The service was absolutely horrible. This black gentleman was serving us and had the least interest in doing so. We went through the menu for a few minutes, and when we were ready to order, he started telling us one by one that they didn't have the ones we wanted and then finally he mentioned that the grill is not on until next hour for dinner, which he could have mentioned at the very beginning. He didn't ask if we wanted water, and didn't explain or help with the wine selection. We got old bread which one piece had old oil on it. We got shrimp risotto and sirloin steak. We asked for medium steak and it was well done and very dry. The salad seemed to be old as well. The risotto was okay. The restaurant was very old school and nice but we were placed by a section which had its lights off and was very dead. We weren't asked where we wanted to be seated even though most of the restaurant was empty. We asked for olive oil and vinegar and he handed it over, we asked for salt and again he handed it over instead of placing it on the table. We tried the house wine and it was aweful and we asked for another one and he said should I change the glasses or its okay? Which is shocking! We just went with it as it was 6 pm and we were very hungry and just wanted to get...
Read moreI would not recommend this restaurant, food quality very poor, probably a tourist trap. This is a chain of 3 restaurants, we've been at the Taverna de Trovadores and liked it before. This one however, we found food quality very poor for very high prices, very low value for money. We had the olives, cheese and bread - was ok, bread a bit old, vegetable soup was unremarkable, then the polenta was good, but the grilled cod was just disappointing- texture felt as if it was reheated rather than freshly cooked, and taste was bland. The spinach also tasted unfresh and bland. We also ordered sautéed vegetables and suspiciously got the same old spinach and no other vegetable in there. The only exception was the veal which was actually good and tasted fresh. Also, half the menu was not available- almost none of the fish and grilled meat. I think paying 20€ for a small dish of reheated cod with some bland spinach and 3 boiled potatoes is ridiculous and very expensive compared to other amazing restaurants I've been to in Portugal and even in Lisbon. Overall it was a big...
Read moreTerrible experience! Went here for a birthday dinner and was very disappointed by the food. The olives were bitter, and the “sausage” was dry and flavorless. On top of this, our risotto dish was bizarrely covered in cream and looked like rice pudding... so heavy and didn’t look anything like the photo. Although the service was friendly and the atmosphere is nice I suggest skipping this place and going to sao Pedro 26 (a neighborhood restaurant that all the expats love). It’s too bad we skipped 26 in favor for this restaurant because it was super expensive ($40 euro for two) and was a complete let down. I truly think the management doesn’t eat their own food or else they would see that they need to make some improvements in the...
