So disappointed! We came at 2:15. We had a great day and were starving. Waitress was extremely rude from the start, wouldn’t even look or anyhow acknowledge our presence. Had to ask few times about the menu, still no real answer.
Felt bad as soon as sat down but was too late to go search another one - most places shut ar 3pm Ended up taking 3 local dishes, cod, cod and squid. Menu had two languages, English and Portuguese. Squid description in English version was saying: “grill squid”. No specification, nothing. Just grill squid. And 3 glasses of house wine
Red was undrinkable. I don’t think it was safe to drink that, we had one sip and left untouched.
Food arrived within 10 mins. Fish was sort of okay, but full of bones and zero flavors.
However, the star was a squid. They didn’t take insides out. Like it had all belly, ink etc etc. We tried that dish many many times and never ever had it all that internal parts. We ended up not eating it he dish at all, just cut it open. When the waiter came, we acknowledged that we are super unhappy with the food - he just left without saying anything.
At this point we just wanted to leave. The bill came and of course it had all items. 45€ for all. We kindly asked to remove at least squid, we left all on the plate.
Waitress rolled her eyes up on us and left. Than chef came and explained that in Portuguese description in menu it said: “dirty”. We don’t talk Portuguese. We ordered in English. No one let us know how the meal will look like, and in menu it said “grilled”. Nothing else
Overall - super bad experience. So many other amazing options on that street....

Restaurant Jardim in Tomar, Portugal, earns a solid four-star rating for its delightful offerings, particularly the Francesinha Especial which has become my personal favorite in town.
As soon as you walk in, the friendly staff welcomes you warmly, setting the stage for a comfortable and relaxed dining experience. The outdoor seating area, in particular, is a pleasant spot to enjoy your meal, adding a sense of tranquility and openness to the dining experience.
Their Francesinha Especial, served with perfectly cooked frites, is a must-try. This classic dish has a way of drawing me back time and again.
While the dessert menu might benefit from a bit more variety, I found the cheesecake with berry compote to be quite enjoyable. The sweet and tart berry compote balances well with the creamy cheesecake, resulting in a satisfying conclusion...

The sardines? Simply divine—grilled to perfection, bursting with freshness, and seasoned with just the right touch to let the natural flavours shine. Then came the “maminha”, tender and juicy, grilled with precision and served with such care that every bite felt like a celebration. And to end the meal on a high note, the chocolate mousse was, quite honestly, sublime—light, velvety, and rich in all the right ways.
O Jardim is the kind of place you dream about revisiting before you’ve even left the table. A must-stop in Tomar for anyone who appreciates honest, soulful Portuguese cuisine.
