Tonel Beach Bar — Restaurant in Vila do Bispo

I can’t speak about the bar since I didn’t eat there. But I’d like to talk about the surf rentals. First of all, the prices are exorbitant and have increased significantly. They only accept cash. €22 for 3 hours just for the board?? Meanwhile, rental shops just 8–10 minutes away on foot charge €20–25 for a full day and €15–20 for a half day depending on the type of board (soft or hardboard). On top of that, they’re not friendly at all, and when we arrived and there were only two hours left, they didn’t even offer a discount on the 3-hour rate — we would have had to pay €22 for just 2 hours. Absurd!

In short, avoid this place — go elsewhere, even if it’s a bit farther from the beach. Algarve Surf Shop is excellent. This one, not so much.

Je ne peux pas parler du Bar car je n’y ai pas mangé. Mais j’aimerais parler des locations de surf. Déjà les prix sont exhorbitants et ils ont beaucoup augmenté. Ils ne prennent que le liquide (cash). 22€ pour 3H pour la planche seule ?? Alors que des loueurs à 8-10 minutes à pied louent à 20-25€ la journée complète et 15-20€ la demi journée en fonction du type de planche (soft ou hardboard). En plus de cela ils ne sont pas aimables et quand nous sommes arrivés et qu’il reste deux heures ils n’ont même pas fait une réduction pour les 3 heures donc on aurait du payer 22€ pour 2H de location : lunaire ! Bref, à fuir, allez ailleurs même si c’est un tout petit peu plus loin de la plage, Algarve surf shop est très bien.

Não posso falar sobre o bar porque não comi lá. Mas gostaria de falar sobre o aluguer de pranchas de surf. Para começar, os preços são exorbitantes e aumentaram bastante. Só aceitam dinheiro. 22€ por 3 horas apenas pela prancha?? Enquanto isso, há lojas de aluguer a 8–10 minutos a pé que cobram 20–25€ pelo dia inteiro e 15–20€ pela meia jornada, dependendo do tipo de prancha (soft ou hardboard). Além disso, não são nada simpáticos e, quando chegámos e só faltavam duas horas, nem sequer fizeram um desconto pela tarifa de 3 horas — teríamos de pagar 22€ por apenas 2 horas. Surreal!

Enfim, evitem este lugar — vão a outro, mesmo que seja um pouco mais longe da praia. A Algarve Surf Shop é ótima. Este aqui, não.

Solo aceptan efectivo. ¿22 € por 3 horas solo por la tabla?? Mientras tanto, hay tiendas de alquiler a 8–10 minutos caminando que cobran 20–25 € por el día completo y 15–20 € por medio día, según el tipo de tabla (soft o hardboard). Además, no son nada amables, y cuando llegamos y solo quedaban dos horas, ni siquiera ofrecieron un descuento por las 3 horas — ¡teníamos que pagar 22 € por solo 2 horas! ¡Absurdo!

En fin, mejor evitad este sitio — id a otro aunque esté un poco más lejos de la playa. Algarve Surf Shop es muy buena. Este lugar, no.

Accettano solo contanti. 22 € per 3 ore solo per la tavola?? Ci sono noleggiatori a 8–10 minuti a piedi che chiedono 20–25 € per l’intera giornata e 15–20 € per la mezza giornata, a seconda del tipo di tavola (soft o hard). Inoltre, non sono per niente gentili e, quando siamo arrivati con solo due ore rimaste, non hanno nemmeno fatto uno sconto per le 3 ore — avremmo dovuto pagare 22 € per sole 2 ore. Assurdo!

Insomma, da evitare. Andate altrove, anche se è un po’ più lontano dalla spiaggia. La Algarve Surf Shop è ottima....

This is a family run business we have frequented for at least 15 years. After hurricane Hercules a few years ago they lost everything and had to completely rebuild - their place is literally on the beach. The simple food and snacks they serve are quite serviceable, and their juices are excellent, their coffee decent. The folks are also very friendly. The only thing you can't expect here is a standard toilet or running water, it's quite "rustic", but that's ok for us for 3/4 of the days...

The ladies and the boy behind the counter are super friendly and the smoothies are amazing! However the owner is totally agro and cannot keep his temper. We were there after surfing and wanted to hang up our wetsuits somewhere. We assumed we are not the only ones with this problem and hung it over the railing and yes we could have asked. The owner flipped out and completely lost it. We left and even got semi followed by...
