After a long walk through Porto, I plopped down on the sofa at Casa Guedes.
The waiter, Jose, was very friendly and helpful. He came to the table with a smile and brought the food. He also politely checked to see if everything was to your liking, and it was!
I had a delicious meal: a pork knuckle with wild mushroom sauce and corn and pumpkin puree, very tasty, and with the red wine, everything fell into place.
For dessert, he suggested the Limon Cheesecake with an espresso, which was also very good. A big compliment for the embarrassment the pork knuckle caused.

Casa Guedes in Gaia is nothing short of the holy grail of pork belly sandwiches. From the first bite, it’s clear that this is a masterpiece of flavors: the crispy bread, the juicy, melt-in-your-mouth pork, and the optional but divine Serra cheese create a sandwich that’s hard to beat. Arguably one of the best pernil sandwiches ever – if not the best.
Beyond the outstanding food, the service stands out thanks to EVE, whose warmth and efficiency make the experience even better. Whether in Portuguese or English, she welcomes guests with genuine kindness and ensures everything runs smoothly. A perfect example of how service can elevate great food.
Verdict: A must-visit in Gaia. 10/10 – for the pernil, the tradition, and the team that makes...

I ordered a burger and fries; the burger was tiny and the fries were like wax, no seasoning.
Then a guy comes round trying to sell other food - but doesn’t say the price… this place is for gullible tourists, I was very...
