A casa do peixe assado — Restaurant in Vila Real de Santo António

Choose this restaurant as it was still open at 10pm. Ordered a chicken pasta, a bitoque and a cataplana for two. My Portuguese family told me not to order pasta in Portugal, should have listened. The pasta came with a creme sauce. I love pasta with cream sauce. But this was just cream, no spices what so ever not even salt. Just cream. There were corn and pineapple in the sauce, have no idea why, did nothing for the taste. If anything it made it worse. Actually sent it back after three bites. Then the waitress questioned my decision. Saying she had described the dish to me that it was a cream sauce with chicken. Yes, but you didn't tell me it would taste nothing, like babyfood. Thankfully the cataplana for two had enough food for three. It was ok, had to give it some extra salt. But it only came with three potatoes. Even if it had only been two people eating it that was not enough potatoes. So asked for more potatoes. Again the waitress questioned why, when my Portuguese mother-in-law commented on the lack of salt the waitress again came with remarks and excuses. We will not come back or recommend this...

I normally try to avoid restaurants where you are invited in, but because we definitely wanted to eat fish, we agreed. We didn't even get a chance to look at the menu, we were immediately pushed to take fish from the refrigerated counter. Quite pricey for Portugal. We asked for a sparkling wine and received a classic white wine without sparkles, even though the owner claimed this was a sparkling win. Ordered a Pizza and Garlic bread as we wanted a quick bite for lunch. There wasn't anything quick about it sadly and the Garlic bread looked like a frozen pizza base folded in half and there was no Garlic to it and it was like cardboard... even the Pigeons refused it. The Pizza was OK but even that was a little burnt on the bottom.
