I had two nice experiences at Joe's cafe but not so good this evening. I went inside the restaurant and sat down but was ignored by the waiting staff. It was not busy at this point in time. I wondered whether they were open or not. In the end I told the lady at the front desk that I would go to Gallerie Lafayette to pick something up and return. When I returned I sat outside in the hope that I would get served, I did and it wasn't too bad. The bread basket was a bit stale, fabulous cocktail (the sidecar) and the penne arrabatia was tasty and al dente. Unfortunately I tried the ice cream which claimed to be home made - but it is the same stuff that is being sold on the third floor in Gallerie Lafayette, minuscule scoops and actually not very pleasant and served on a pile of broken biscuits. The waiter and I had a disagreement in that I asked how many scoops I got for the 39 Riyals. He said three but what he did not explain very successfully was that I had to have three scoops of the same flavour. I in fact got charged 15 Riyal per scoops for three tiny scoops of very unsatisfactory ice cream that isn't home made at all. I insisted that the charge was amended and the young man was palpably very resentful and kept me waiting for a long time in the humid dining area. Said two wait for two minutes.. they take another 10 minutes!
