Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews — Restaurant in San Antonio

We were passing through on a road trip and tried to place a mobile order but it wouldn't go through. So we called and they tried to help us and gave us the coupon we were trying to use online. It was supposed to be buy one get one 50% off for veterans day. There was also a free burger offer for veterans if they ate at the restaurant, which we couldn't do unfortunately. We had a vet with us so it would have been nice to give him a free burger. When we arrived to pick up the food, it took a considerable amount of time, which I didn't mind too much. Then when the food came out, they applied to coupon to the kids burger, which saved us a dollar or two. On the phone, we were kind of under the impression that it was for the proper burgers we were ordering, so that was disappointing. They also could not give the military discount that they offer (on veterans day), because of the coupon. I'm pretty sure the military discount would have been better than the $2 we saved on the kids burger. The staff was nice and seemed helpful. I didn't raise any fuss over the "savings" as it wasn't a huge deal, but it was disappointing to say the least. Then we got back on the road and ate. The fries were great and plentiful! And they have us all the ranch and ketchup we asked for! The kids seemed to enjoy their burgers well enough but the adults burgers were dry and not as hot as the fries, which was also disappointing. Overall, I imagine I'd like to sit down and eat here but will probably avoid getting delivery or grab and go...

The menu is a constant explosion of different types of so called gourmet burgers. You know that by the price set for these sandwiches and the fact that they are called just that on the menu. I like a number of the burgers well enough, but usually only get one when I have a discount coupon.

Today I rejected the plethora of beef offerings and decided to sample one of their chicken dishes which the affable waiter claimed were all good. The crispy chicken sandwich was just that, crispy. A single chicken breast breaded and fried occupied the hamburger bun with onion, shredded lettuce and tomato; a satisfying enough sandwich selection. The chicken tenders were also the genuine thing with four pieces of decent size tenders with a medium thick batter. Don't expect any cream gravy to go with that though. The dipping is done in one of several salad dressings - I chose Ranch, but it made me feel like I should be dipping raw carrots and celery rather than fried chicken strips.

Not much going on during our late Tuesday lunch which was a welcome change to the sometimes uproarious din from the cadres of ankle biters and their behavior ignoring parents. I understand that RR will be changing their concept and dining rooms somewhat in the not too distant future. The main dining room will be a quieter place and cordoned off from a livelier section where all the little darlings can cavort to their hearts content with like minded diners...

Update; We came here for lunch today, December 19th. My previous review I gave it 5 stars, but because of today, I dropped it to 4 stars. We asked for a table for 5 and they gave us a table for 4. We saw larger tables and asked the hostess if we could either push two tables together or move to a larger table. She said she would have to ask her manager and until he approves the right size table to fit our needs that we would have to wait up front for 5-10 minutes. They ended up seating us into a corner booth that was ok, but a bit cramped. About 30 seconds later they sat a party of 5 at the table was asked for. Very rude and disrespectful of them. The waiter was very nice but extremely slow. The food took forever to get and it was barely warm. It must have been ready for a little while before it was brought to us. The onion rings on the tower were overcooked to burnt. The burgers were dry and the turkey BLT, had very little bacon.

We came here on May 4th for dinner and it was our first time to this location. Everything was great. Well cooked, seasoned and flavorful. We all enjoyed our food and the service was very good. We will...
