Restaurante La Marea — Restaurant in Cádiz

So... I can just say we ask a few starters from a menu and they didn't have any of the ones we wanted so they gave us others (they were good at least). Then after 40 minutes of waiting and already near the closing hour they brought and began to serve the wrong main course saying they were sorry because they made a mistake but without giving us any choice at 5pm in the afternoon to take something else. It was the rice-soup (40°C outside....) or nothing else! And in the end they had us pay the bill with not even a little discount at all and saying they adjusted the price to the right main course they actually served (which was a little cheaper than the one we asked for) like it was some kind of favour...... so in the end the food wasn't bad but the whole experience felt completely off and we couldn't order nothing we wanted from the menu. And it felt like they just had not enough food and decided for us forcing their choice because we were tourist. If it wasn't for the epic fail it should be a good place to eat... if you could...

I arrived around 4.30pm for a later lunch, after being ignored for 10 minutes I went to get a menu. I was then told the kitchen was closed, I asked what time it closed and was told 5pm. I showed my watch which said 4.45pm and the waiter walked off. He returned with a menu!! Being a solo traveller many of the dishes are for sharing, plus when i asked if it was possible to order a paella for 1 i was told the kitchen stopped cooking this at 4.30!! The waiters were rude and the restaurant wasn't too busy (6 tables). I ordered a still water, wine and clam noodle dish. I got sparkling water and some bread thrown on the table. They did not make me feel welcome at all, most places i have been in Cadiz have gone out of their way to be friendly as I am on my own. The noodles were delicious, but would i give this establishment my money again?...absolutely not, there are far too many very good restaurants in Cadiz with fantastic staff...

Recommended by our hotel, Hotel Regio, we arrived shortly after 8:00 pm, which is early by Spanish standards, and had our choice of seating in their large tent enclosure. It was quite comfortable as there was a cool breeze off the ocean. The initial service was prompt, but if you don’t order right away the waiters loose interest and walk away (quite common in our travels through Madrid, Merida & Seville on this trip). Two of us ordered pulpo, one Galician style and the other chilli pepper. The waiter cautioned me that the chilli pepper was “muy caliente”, which was quite funny as it had virtually no spice to it, although it was very tasty and seemed fresh. Two of us ordered a rice dish (only available if two persons order it) and that took about 40 minutes to arrive, be sure to order it right away, and enjoy some drinks and starters, to avoid what feels like a long wait.
