Thu 3 Aug: If you don't speak Spanish, this is a big problem for Ana & Javi at breakfast. They are extremely rude, refuse to speak English and do not hide their racial hatred towards those who don't speak or "look" Spanish. You only have to look at their interaction with anyone Spanish compared to everyone else (Asian, Austrian, English, German).
I've seen this on two occasions with us (a black couple on the first day and now an Asian couple today. We gave our room number for breakfast and were given a table. The table was taken by another family and when we politely asked Ana & Javi for another seat, there was loud shouting & aggression from us, speaking in Spanish and telling us to go back to give their room number and follow the correct process. Even when the blonde "hostess" with curly hair and no name badge realised we'd already signed-in, it felt like she was looking down on us. Disgraceful to treat paying guests as 2nd class patrons.
Today (Sat 5 Aug) an Asian woman asked Ana for water (yes AGUA MINERAL) and was given the dirtiest look before Ana turned away without responding, as if the Asian woman shouldn't be talking to her. Another example of the typical treatment for tourists to expect from Ana. The Asian woman was visibly distraught and we felt her pain, after experiencing the same disgusting treatment from Ana & Javi only two days earlier.
The only time that Ana smiles is when she speaks & plays with her co-worker, or speaks with Spanish guests. Ana & Javi have so far refused to speak any English during our stay but today, when Ana wanted us out of the restaurant so that she could clean our tables & finish early, her English was very well spoken. The worst customer service from Ana & Javi, they should not be customer-facing. Ana & Javi should perhaps work elsewhere if they don't want to speak English and have a problem with everyone that isn't Spanish, they are a disgrace to the hotel and the people of Cádiz. Can the manager also please tell Ana to stop throwing & smashing everything together when clearing tables, or just replace her & Javi with people who want to be customer-facing?
Antonio at Breakfast and Jose at Reception are excellent!!! In fact, most of the staff members that we've met have been excellent (apart from Ana & Javi). The staff (apart from Ana & Javi) always try to understand English and appreciate that we try to understand & speak Spanish. It's actually not that difficult when you try so maybe Ana & Javi should start doing the same.
This is only day 3 so I'll be posting a further update of any further incidents, the hotel, room, sea view & breakfast.
Day 4 Update (Sun 6 Aug): No Ana + No Javi = No Problems!!! Excellent service from the breakfast team today (Paco, Paloma and the others who's names I didn't see). Everyone was happy, smiling & in good spirit, which was noticeable with the guests. A very relaxed, calm & warm ambience. Nobody was rushed out of breakfast, a pleasant & much better experience for everyone. I'm also happy to say that that the staff had no problem serving coffee & water today! I can also confirm that there was no loud smashing of cutlery when clearing tables throughout breakfast today! It seems that Ana does this on purpose to give everyone a bad experience and her colleagues are apprehensive to stop her as she is extremely...
Read moreWe came to this hotel because we were in town for the MotoGP race in Jerez. We originally wanted to stay in Jerez but most hotels where sold out months in advance. So we figured why not stay by the beach and just drive into Jerez, only like 30ish mins (without race traffic). Cadiz looked like it was a decent size city but in reality it's so small! The "historical downtown" area was tiny and NO parking. We personally like the older vibes where there are tons of restaurants, small alleys to walk between buildings and just exploring. Cadiz is so small, it has very minimal of this, but it is on the water.
Anyway, back to the hotel. I am only giving them 2 stars because, the room it's self was very large, it's directly on the beach, they have a parking garage, and the staff was friendly.
They lost a bunch of points for many reasons. Upon getting off the elevator, the hallway smelled of smoke. The room itself lightly smelled of smoke too. I know there is a lot of smoking in Europe but we have not had this problem at any other hotel in the 3 times we have been to Europe. The room was edged with tile but the middle was hardwood, which was very creaky like an old house. The room itself needed major updating. Very old curtains, couches and furniture. The bed was soo uncomfortable and hard! Was like sleeping on a rock. Says "free WiFi" but it only works in the lobby. There are signs in the room saying wifi but does not work. They have a smart TV in the room but can't use any of the features because the wifi doesn't work. We got a room with a balcony, we walked in and the curtains were closed, which I would expect them to be open to show off the view. We opened the curtains and there was a metal shade down on the outside of the windows. Took us about 15 mins to figure out how to open it. Again something that should have been already done. The last and biggest reason for loosing points was because on the 2nd night we found bugs in our room!!! We opened the door when coming back from dinner and my husband noticed something run across the floor! We started looking around and found 5 silverfish and tons of ants!! We killed what we found and put our luggage and belongings on the tables. The next day when they "cleaned" our room, they only changed the bed and gave is new towels. Floors where not swept or mopped! I wanted to change rooms but my husband made a good point. If there are bugs in one room, 99% chance they are in the rest! Before anyone thinks maybe we had food to attract the bugs, wrong, we had no food or snacks. Only water that was in the mini fridge. The following morning woke up to more silverfish in the bathroom and ants, thankfully it was our last day and were checking out so not worth the complaint.
Upon checkout I was fully prepared to tell them about everything that happened. Not once did someone ask how our stay was. So I guess my negative review will be more impactful since they didn't care to ask. At the almost 250€ per night, we were highly disappointed and would not recommend this hotel....
Read moreThe hotel is in a great location on the Paseo Marítimo overlooking playa de la Victoria and I have been meaning to stay here for years so when I managed to get a good price I jumped at the opportunity. The stay was mixed with some good and bad points but mostly I enjoyed my stay.||||Checkin was pretty quick and allocated room with a side view of the beach on the 8th floor. The room itself was spacious but the décor and furniture is dated and worn and has seen better days which was a shame. There is plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space and lots of coat hangers which was a plus, also the room was very clean. The bed was very comfortable with soft linens and I slept very well.||||The bathroom was large and had a separate room where the toilet was located for privacy , towels were nice and small selection of soaps and gels as you would expect. The overhead shower in the bath worked fine and powerful enough and easy to use.||||The outside balcony was bigger than I expected and perfect to sit and have a glass of wine or a beer while the sun goes down and watch the world go by. Also the room service menu was not bad value at all and very reasonably priced, mixed salad €6.50 / cheese + ham sandwich €4.50 / club sandwich €9.50||||Breakfast exceeded my expectations and was included in my rate. The buffet was very generous, everything you would expect and there was even cava ! The cooked items were all delicious, plenty of cold meats and cheeses, pastries and breads. The coffee was good too. Do grab a table on the outside terrace if there is room for the lovely view over the beach.||||The staff were all helpful and friendly and spoke good English and other languages too ! The wi-fi was really awful and in this day and age of connectivity it really need to be a lot better and improved. Parking was € 18 a day in the garage but luckily I was able to park on a neighboring street as it was off season but in the summer it must be hard to find a spot (street parking is payable too) With a super new hotel opening on the other side of the street in 2023 the Hotel Playa Victoria will need to...
