A little underwhelming.
We went with the expectation that 18Lounge was a premium restaurant in Bucharest. Unfortunately our server (at the beginning, and we had someone different at the end of the evening) wasn't super experienced. The wine (bottle) we ordered was originally not available, so we ordered a different option and yet he comes with the original bottle, saying "he found one". For 169lei, I wasn't able to sample the wine before he pours a whole glass, or I would have mentioned that it was rather cold (for Pinot Noir)... We also had white wine glasses. Again, normally not an issue but strange detail given their "status". We also ordered sparkling and not still water, and received the wrong one. Never usually an issue, but we took note. Starters (Beef Tartar) took over 30min and the toast was cold. It also lacked the deep rich flavour we were looking for. Mains were well over an hour (after we had finished our starter) and unfortunately weren't the standard we were (again) expecting. I ordered the duck with fois grai and by the time I got it, the fois grai (the little bit that was there) had almost melted... Didn't even realise until later that the second "sauce", three dots on the plate, was the fois grai. For 120lei, again, disappointed. My friend ordered salmon and it was cooked nicely but not overly seasoned and it tasted although it wasn't prepared freshly (but maybe ordered in frozen). Again, not "bad", just not at the standard we hoped.
Strangely, although *smart casual" is mentioned on their website as dress code, there were children running in the restaurant barefoot (I guess after they finished dinner), and there was certainly guests dressed in street clothes.
Unfortunately looks nice, but just not that standard we were hoping for. Nice views, but not in a rush...

Read moreBeen here for an anniversary dinner and was left with a rather bitter taste. Only great thing is the rooftop experience, other than this was disappointing. High prices, low standards. To start with, was quite amazed to see kinds in shorts and funky t-shirts...but I guess if the money is there, it doesn't matter that it is a 4* restaurant or the corner kebab place, money talks! The food is good when it's hot. To our surprise, the appetizer plates were simply taken from us. It did not matter we were not finished, they simply stuffed the second dish in after 10 minutes max. It was ready, so they brought it, just like a cheap neighbourhood joint. We ate our appetizer, then the main course was almost cold. Tasted not that great, as it was almost cold. They recommend the truffle chips which I for one do not recommend. Ordered them but the quality is poor - lots of truffle oil, they are drowned in it and some pure truffles. The taste is not great, unless you need a stomach ache. Service was disappointing. Not sure if they are trying to get rid of the customers, but they seem to be doing a great job...if they keep it up, well, will be left with no customers but the kids in shorts. The wine list is quite comprehensive, plenty to choose from and good wines. Deserts are good, maybe the best part of the experience (at least for us). The atmosphere is not the greatest being surrounded by kids in shorts while you have an outfit for a 4 * restaurant, not a kebab house...and on top try to have a romantic dinner. All in all, service should suffer improvements and they should impose a dress code or...
