I visited Question Coffee in Gishushu, Kigali, and it was one of the best coffee experiences I’ve had in the city. The café is beautifully set up modern, cozy, and filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. I drove there easily, it’s located near the RDB (Rwanda Development Board) offices in Gishushu, so it’s central and accessible whether you’re coming from town or from Remera/Kimihurura side. Parking is available, though a bit tight during peak hours, so going in the morning or mid-afternoon is best.
The coffee itself is excellent, smooth, rich, and carefully prepared. Prices are fair for the quality you’re getting: a cappuccino or latte costs around 3,000–4,000 RWF, and you can get pour-over or specialty brews for a bit more. They also serve light snacks and pastries if you want something to pair with your drink.
What really makes Question Coffee stand out is its mission. Beyond just being a café, it’s a social enterprise that works directly with women coffee farmers across Rwanda. They provide training, tools, and resources to improve the quality of the beans and ensure the women earn better incomes. Many of the staff are women who have been part of these programs, so when you’re enjoying your cup, you’re also supporting thousands of women farmers building sustainable livelihoods.
I recommend it both for locals looking for a good workspace or catch-up spot and for visitors who want to experience coffee with a purpose. If you’re in Kigali, Question Coffee in Gishushu should be...
Read moreSigning up for the women lead Coffee Farm Trek I wasn't sure what to expect. After all, 8 hrs is a lot of time, a whole day activity. Well, suffice it to say - it was a wonderful. My guides Tessy and Gisele met me at Question Coffee in Kigali. After a complementary coffee, I joined them and our driver on trek that would take me to visit not just a farm where coffee is grown, but also a coffee washing station where beans are washed and processed for shipment.
At the farm and processing station I was greeted by the staff, primarily all women, who explained the entirely natural process they use to grow coffee in their collective. I learned a lot, and suffice it to say, appreciate that behind each bean is a lot of care and attention. Now, more than ever I'll make sure to purchase coffee that is as ethically grown and processed as I witnessed in Rwanda.
Suffice it to say, a very memorable experience that I highly recommend to coffee lovers who visit Kigali...
