Al Shorfa Restaurant — Restaurant in Makkah Al Mukarramah

This 5 star is for Md Shain. We felt that we wanted to mention him because he was very nice and friendly and welcoming to us on our first and next day of trying this restaurant on Nov 23-24, 2023. And nicer than the other employees. A couple of the other employees were less helpful especially on the second day such as they didn’t let us see the food before paying for the buffet and they didn’t give us change for a bigger riyal bill after our meal was finished and we wanted to leave tip (although sometimes I hear tip is not expected? Still confused about tipping in this country). On the first day we enjoyed the food very much which led us to return the next day. However, we didn’t enjoy the food as much on the second day for some reason. But on the first day we were very thankful for all the delicious food that was also made to be cooked soft which was very helpful for our mouth and tooth pain issues. And we would have loved to compliment the chef for that! We hope the restaurant can continue to improve. We had the buffet deal for 150 riyals for two people, normally 200 riyals. That’s a pretty good deal! Especially when the rest of the food court is largely very disappointing.

Some of the food we especially liked were the vermicelli noodle vegetable soup, Egyptian rice with vermicelli, the Egyptian milky dessert forgot the name of it, grape leaves, hummus, the lamb and chicken dishes when cooked to be very soft/melting off the bone, meat pies, ghoulash, soft spaghetti with soft ground beef. Of course there were plenty of things we didn’t try.

We dined in on the 30/10/24, after Duhor prayer. On arrival, the cashier 525 SR for 4 adults and 3 children all over 11 years old، which was fair enough as i knew in advance the cost. At no point did anyone mention anything about time restrictions. We made ourselves comfortable after the food, which was average. The kids became busy with their phones, and I started having conversation with my guests, whom i didn’t see for over 20 years. Shortly after a member of the staff came to say that their bosses send them to ask us to leave as we stay over the one hour time period allowed. I've chosen this restaurant main for the fact that it's presentable and it offers a place for me to set with my guests if I knew about the one hour time limit I would have looked for somewhere else much cheaper and with much better value for money food. I'm very disappointed and i would not recommend this place for anyone for the fact that it's expensive...

My personal opinion is that this restaurant is really awful in service..

The food is so so..

And little bid discriminating for me as Indonesian and Southeast asian.. First : the food to composition more carbohydrates than the protein..

The food location is in the corner, the service is bad, and there is no plate and spoon available, and ask the waiters for it, and the response is awful..

Major highlights is in the services, they take my plate without asking while I'm still sitting there..

Compared to the western food area, it is like heaven and earth

If the umrah service company gives several choices, definitely don't go back to this...
