La Rumba is a relatively new restaurant in the Belgrade food scene. It is a Cuban place just below Boulevar and up the hill from Trg Slavia. The place is owned by Cubans and the kitchen is run by a Cuban cook, so the food is as authentic as it can be with the limitations that ingredient sourcing will have on any of us that cook our comfort foods.
The menu is filled with Cuban staples that I’ve had many, many times in Miami. Our friends ordered the Ropa Vieja and we had the Camerones Habenero and both were solid. We also had empanadas and croquets as an appetizer. The empanadas were a little under filled, but they were appetizers and not main courses. The Ropa and shrimp were both great with the only traditional item missing was the black beans. They even had Plantain chips with the Ropa.
The service was excellent and prices were a little high, but with the cost of shrimp and other ingredients, I get it. We dine outside, which was nice, but the inside was super clean and neat with Latino music playing in the background.
We always go back to give places a chance to solidify their five stars or, hopefully not, slip. I think they will stay a nice, solid place to go and get great food from Cuba. Maybe next time they will have...
Read moreGood atmosphere, multilingual staff, comfortable experience. They have indoor and outdoor seating. This is one of the only places in Belgrade that serve croquettes/croquetas, and they are excellent! Simple, creamy, crispy, cooked to perfection. I would come again just for the croquetas. Unfortunately, the rest of the food was less impressive. We ordered Camaron Al Ajillo and Pechuga Al Grill Con Mojo Cubano. The rice was not the worst I’ve had in Belgrade, but also not the best (undercooked, and seasoning was just okay). Salad was fresh but not very tasty, basically just tasted like vinegar. The chicken was cooked nicely but seasoning was basic—good, but basic. Shrimp was also cooked well but very simple. Maybe the other dishes are better. They didn’t do anything wrong, just could be more flavorful.
Overall, it seems like a good place for drinks and appetizers, but for us the meal was disappointing for the...
Read moreThat was thoroughly disappointing. I just arrived into Belgrade and was excited to see this well reviewed Cuban restaurant so close to my hotel. What I got for dinner was clearly reheated leftovers from lunch. The pork was so overcooked and so salty that I couldn't even finish it. A steak knife couldn't even cut the pork, that's how dried out it was. The salad was a lump of plain shredded cabbage with no dressing, and some slices of tomato and cucumber. The plantain chips were also so salty I could barely eat them, and I like salty food so when it's too salty for me, then it's inedible for everyone else. I should have known better when I walked in and the place was completely empty but I was too tired and too hungry to look for something else. Overall, super disappointing food especially after reading so many positive reviews, but I can only rate them based on what they produced and tonight it...
