Friendly manager was the main positive; we expected a relaxed service from reading other reviews but with things like food being served without dishes for nearly ten minutes and wine orders never arriving we were a little bit fed up by the end. We did need to wait about 90 minutes for our food although we arrived without a booking at 7.30pm and the manager kindly fitted us in.
The food tasted fine but perhaps not reflected in the slightly steep price tag (fish curry - 220rupees each at 18rupees to the pound currently). Beer and wine reasonably priced at about 50-60 rupees each.
updated review Since being to other Creole food places elsewhere in the archipelago I now have strong reservations about this place. I feel it relies on the friendly fromt of house manager and also being one of only a handful of places to eat on this part of the coastline. The food was ok as described above but overpriced for the lacklustre and even lazy service from other staff and ludicrous wait times. I like the slower pace of life in the islands but this place was far too slow. Even the take away van down the road from it is better and...
Read moreThe meal was OK, but not more than that. The service was bad. We reserved a table at 8 p.m. Not knowing that this restaurant has a tendency to close at 9 no matter if there are still guests.
Food, as I said was … let‘s say ok. Very down to earth easy dishes. Take away plus one should say.
Service was friendly when taking the order and bringing the plates. After that absent. No service at all. Not even interested if clients could miss something or would like to have another drink. No presenting of the menu for a desert. Nothing.
But at a quarter to 9 every empty chair has been arranged in order to close the restaurant. Windows were closed and staff in waiting position for guests finally terminating their meal. And this happend to guests at three tables!
It felt like beeing kicked outside. Eat your junk and GO!
Perhaps it is better when you choose to dine at 7 or earlier, but hey… couldn‘t they say that reservations at 8 are not accepted due to...
Read moreInstead of choosing one of the specials, we ordered a combo of it all! And let me tell you... all of the flavors of all of the dishes married together perfectly! Our platter consisted of rice, salad, and French fries. Also, a whole fish, a tuna steak, octopus, lobster, breaded and fried bok choy and steamed veggies...whew! If you're visiting from around the world, and you find yourself at La Goulue Café, just order it all!! I almost forgot. We also had the fish soup and spring rolls! Everything was great! Including Shana, our delightful server!! And did I mention that you could not only hear the waves, you could see the beautiful ocean???...
