Read moreThis hotel is in a great location - directly next to the river, one of the main bus stations right round the corner and right on the edge of the Old Town. The staff throughout are all very friendly and welcoming and it does feel like a traditional European five-star property.
I had booked a single room and while the bed was a large single and comfortable, it was annoying everything else in the room took the ‘single’ approach to the extreme - one sachet of coffee, one mug, one bottle of shower gel etc. The mini bar was stocked though and everything else in the room decent. The TV was large and had a good number of English language channels, electric sockets next to the bed, it was quiet with decent views and the bathroom was spotlessly clean. I couldn’t get the wifi to work but with the good mobile coverage coped fine without.
The bar on the ground floor is a nice retreat, open very late and with a full range of drink options. It does permit smoking but it isn’t overly bothersome and it’s got a really traditional atmosphere with great staff. I didn’t get a chance to sample the restaurant but if the outdoor terrace had have been open that would offer a good place to watch the world go by.
Overall it’s a decent option if you want to stay somewhere located in best spot and I’d happily...
Read moreThis is one of the most rewarding hotels in Bratislava. Once it was designed and built (1954) by gifted and common-sense people using genuine materials and creating a kind of a cozy and professional atmosphere. The hotel was recently restored, fortunately, keeping its original style. The staff is friendly and well dressed and well organized. There is a cozy day bar including, in which there is a large view on the Danube river, original leather feuteils, cigars, good coffee, quality drinks and liquors, perfect service. In this bar one can also order and eat a number of dishes or snacks (their escalope viennoise was excellent). There is also a sumptuous breakfast restaurant and a nice French restaurant. As for the rooms, we had an Executive Double Room with terrace on the 5th floor including a genuine view on the Danube river, standard bathroom, a separate WC including bidet (great) and a number of facilities as described on the hotel's web page. The hotel has an open-air parking facility just in front of the main entrance. One is allowed to leave the car on the parking place for a couple of hours after the check-out time (11:00 am). This is really nice since one can reach by walking the full center of Bratislava in 1-2 min and avoid parking problems...
