Smokin' Bob Barbecue — Restaurant in Bratislava

We have walked by this several times and noted that we needed to stop. Sure glad we did! Americans are always cautious with places like this because it will likely never be like home. Smokin' Bob turned out to be a great surprise.

They were out of brisket when we went, but we tried the pulled pork sandwich and a single rib to see the flavours.

Pulled Pork Sandwich: Carolina style with slaw on it. You can also order with cheese, which is different, but it was worth the try. Light on the sauce, but I prefer it that way versus drenched. Rib: Delicious. We didn't expect beef, but it was good. I hope they branch out into burnt ends based on the crispy bits. Potato Salad: German style was a little different. As an American, you might not be used to it being warm, but it was terrific. Not Amish or Mustard style, but still tasty with the meal. Mac N' Cheese: This one is tough because it's nearly impossible to get the cheese foundation you need here. Sometimes we will bring Velveeta over when we are homesick, and it is more of a sharp cheddar that leaves a bit of cheez-it flavour, but it's good. Not what you will expect. Banana Pudding: Probably the best banana pudding I have ever had outside the US. Very good, and I would eat a tub of it. Maybe two tubs of it.

My wife and I both looked up at the end, wishing we had, in the true American style, ordered more than we did. I can only imagine how frequently the Embassy staff visits this place, but it's excellent. If the locals can give it a chance, they will realise why Americans love BBQ.

If you're looking for BBQ the way BBQ is meant to be, this is the place! Everything is homemade, and you can taste it from the first bite to the last. The brisket is truly out of this world: so tender and packed with flavor, you could keep eating it forever! The ribs and pulled pork are also top-notch, juicy, and full of flavor.

But that's not all – the pulled chicken and turkey taste exactly like they are ment to be, with the perfect smoky flavor and incredibly tender texture. And the homemade sausages? A must-have! They are the perfect addition to the entire BBQ feast.

Even all of the sauces are homemade, and they perfectly complement each dish. Whether it's tangy, sweet, or smoky, the sauces add just the right kick and elevate the flavors to the next level.

What truly completes the experience are the fantastic side dishes: coleslaw, potato salad, and pinto beans (with brisket) (there is much more !). Everything is fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the combination with the meat is simply heavenly.

There is a lot on the menu, so we decided to have one of each option - starting with the ribs… the smoky flavour was just nothing I have ever tasted in restaurant, really amazing. You just need to have one these when you are dining in barbecue restaurant 🙂 even the loaded potato had this sharp smoky taste of grilling (And it was also quiete filling). Next on the list was a turkey tacos - this one had a character of its own. The only downside was, that you could only choose one basic sauce, which was an avocado and probably salsa. I would also like some heat in there.. maybe there is an option but it was not offered to me so try to ask. Last on the list were the legendary mac & cheese - my wife just said “oh, this is goood!”, I was not that “taken”, so it depends… the little things matters and in this time this was the staff. Guys were in friendly mood, even after a whole day so that was definitly a big plus 🙂 I wanted to give a 4 but for me this is the only option in Bratislava when you can have such a smoky flavour for a good...
