Delicious food, fantastic service and lovely view with outside seatings. The waiter gave us really good recommendations as we asked to try the most traditional Slovenian dishes. The meat platter for 1 was enough for the two of us - as the waiter said that he's not seen a girl finished a portion throughout his job tenure at the restaurant, we gladly accepted his advice. After we devoured the meat platter, we still had cravings for some beef goulash but of course ordering a portion was impossible for us at this point. When we made our yearnings to the waiter, he very kindly offered to give us some tasting sample to try. Turned out to be a starter portion goulash. What a pleasant surprise, how generous! It was absolutely delectable as well! The dining experience kept on building as we asked for the bill. We were given two FREE small glasses of mouth-watering Slovenian red dessert wine at the end. All of which cost less than €20! An unbelievably incredible meal to end our short holiday in Slovenia! Highly recommended!! After your meal, you can also check out their gingerbread museum in the basement. It was very interesting to see the whole production process here. They have been making these for more than 200 years!

We had a wonderful quiet lunch late on a September Sunday and were one of just a couple of tables that were in use. Loved the Austrian decor-the interior is really quaint. While service was quite leisurely, the food was really good-especially the Viennese chicken (also offered in pork) and fries; paper thin, breaded and fried to a crispy texture with curled golden does and a big smear of lingonberry sauce. The fresh pumpkin soup and large salad were also nice. I wouldn’t mind going back again for that chicken. Afterwards we could resist a slice of cinnamonny apple strudel-yum! Be sure to pop downstairs to the “cookie work shop” aka cookie “museum” to see how they are keeping a tradition alive.

First time to enter, I thought I was entering the museum of the gingerbread 🍭🍭🍭! But the place indeed is a museum of gingerbread, but also the restaurant. It is beautifully decorated with gingerbread things, folklore accessories, so colorful and lively, gives the vibes of fairy tales house. The menu is composed by local food and international food. I tried the local food and it was so flavorful and mouth watering. The service was good, need time to wait for the food but no worry since we are not dining at a fast-food chain 😍🍽️🕯️

One of the most welcoming and homely restaurants I've been to. From the initial gentleman who showed us downstairs to where they make their traditional and famous gingerbread cookies, to the waiter who explained the different food on the menu, to the other waiter who live streamed a world cup football game on his own phone for us to watch. And then there's the food - lots of traditional options to choose from, which don't disappoint. Would have been nice to have time for dessert!

Rally expensive for the food quality... Don't get me wrong, everything was OK but it's way too expensive for being only OK. (Approx 25€ per person without desserts) Service was quite slow and it took what it felt ages for us to get served and, when we were done to pay the bill. On the other hand, the place was beautiful and the waiter was really kind and joyful the whole time, he helped us understand everything and communicated with us on English.

Gostilna Lectar is an amazing place with over 200 years of history! The atmosphere is cozy and full of character, and the food is simply amazing—traditional Slovenian dishes made with care. There’s even a bakery where they craft the famous Slovenian gingerbread, adding a unique touch. Fun fact: even the King of Norway has dined here! If you’re in Slovenia, this place is a must-visit for a memorable meal and experience. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
