The fish is excellent. We all had it grilled. I had the sea bream, my favorite, because they didn't have sardines, another favorite; my wife and my colleague had mackerel; my colleague's husband had sea bass. The huge plates of fried calamari that everyone was ordering looked hideous. Fried fish is an abomination. My colleague had said that the restaurant was highly rated. Probably because of that, there were no free tables. Tourists crowding in instead of finding places for themselves. Someone inside the kitchen shouted out for us to wait for the waiter to seat us. There was a waiter, and he did seat a couple who had arrived before us. He then disappeared, leaving us standing out in the afternoon heat with others. Eventually, a large group up and left, leaving three empty tables pushed together. After waiting quite a while for someone to come and clear them, we divided them and started bussing the stuff ourselves. Eventually, some young lady showed up, wearing the same type of shirt that the vanished waiter had worn. She said, 'Let me do it,' took a few used glasses and left. We cleared the rest, divided the tables and sat down. By and by, she came back to take drink orders. She was from the bar next door, working a separate tab. Then there were the pigeons, about forty of them, that would come swooping in as soon as a table became empty, flying under the parasols and right over the tables and diners' heads, and clamoring onto the plates of leftovers. You know what that risks. It took two trips to the window to get all the plates of our order. When my wife went to get utensils, the young lady at the window was rude, saying something like, 'He should have picked them up with the food. Do you expect me to bring them to you'? The grilled fish is good, but the atmosphere is highly uncomfortable. There were at least three virtually empty eateries on the way to the square and one right on the square, Rostelin, with a smaller clientele and a much calmer atmosphere. Don't insist on going to the places that everyone recommends; follow your nose. Find an...
Read moreI came to this place as it seems to be quite popular in Piran, according to the reviews and also as a recommendation from the hotel
However, my experience was far from that great. Maybe I was unlucky, but my review is based what I experienced.
The restaurant location is great, a nice square in the middle of Piran. This is the best thing about the restaurant in my opinion.
The way the restaurant works is strange. For the food it is self service, you order, you get a number, and when it is ready you pick it up. But for the drinks, these are handled by a waiter. And this was the major issue for me. After finding a table, I was unable to order drinks because the single waiter never once came near the table or asked what I wanted. The restaurant was full and there was only one person, I understand they might have been understaffed. However I don't understand, why can't the drinks be also self service, it would make a lot more sense. Basically I had my entire meal without any drink.
The food in itself was nothing extraordinary in my opinion, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable. Maybe being used to eat sea food my expectations are higher than most.
Also, you have to pay in cash, which I find quite inconvenient and not really reasonable in such a touristic place.
The price was okay. So overall, I loved the atmosphere of the location, but really disliked how they work, seems to me very inefficient. It seems most people have no issues, so again I might have...
Read moreVisited begin September as couple. Self-service basis. Prices reasonable. We opted for the Fritolin mixed plate (#1) for two persons.
The service staff primarily assigned tables and delivered drinks, while ordering and receiving food were part of the self-service system. Drinks were ordered separately from the adjacent bar, and tipping was expected at the bar rather than at the Fritolin restaurant. Although the division of responsibilities is fair, clearer signage would be helpful to avoid confusion (4/5).
The food took a little while to arrive, but it was worth the wait, as everything was prepared fresh. The mixed plate offered a diverse range of items to sample. The grilled squid was outstanding, while the fries were a bit excessive without any accompanying sauce. It is advisable to try different components of the plate early on, as the taste can become monotonous later. The variations in taste are solely reliant on the natural flavors and sometimes the consistency of the ingredients (4/5).
Regarding the ambiance, there isn't much to comment on as we dined on the tables at the square in front of the restaurant. The atmosphere felt somewhat touristy but also relaxed and enjoyable (5/5).
I would recommend this restaurant for couples or groups. Although the mixed plate is advertised for two people, it could easily be shared among three women. (4+4+5)/3 ...
