Our waiter was great. Some of the other waiters less so. I think the training program used here (if any) needs an upgrade.
We did go there at 16:00 on a thursday, as the lunch special menu was ending and dinner service was starting so that might have had something to do with the fact we often had to look for service (in an empty restuarant).
The food was not great at ALL. Only the guest eating the chicken pasta enjoyed her food.
Chips and onion rings were terrible. Most of us didnt eat them after the first bite.
Plankie Chimchurie Steak was served on a hot plate so hot the oil was spitting all over our servers arm and then consequently all over our laps and clothing. We had to use the menue and serviettes to shield ourselves (I'm not kidding). Within 5 minutes our steaks were over cooked.
Blue cheese burger lacked blue cheese flavour. The patty was thin but didnt seem store bought.
The pizza was "ok". The base was prefectly round, indicating the bases are mass produced by a machine and not prepared in kitchen. If it's pizza you want, there are a number of better places. Try Olive Bistro, 10km's or so up Durban road.
I think the owners need to have a rethink about their chefs choices.
I suggest you rather visit Cattle Barron just down the road for a better food experience.
The place is clean, the decor is nice. Some of the staff seem to be qualified to do the job.
6 people. R 2000 rand. It didnt feel worth it. Evey person at our table agreed that we will not...
Read moreI booked for a large group. There was certain requirements but they were very accommodating, when I was unable to meet all of them.
When you enter, you are greeted by a friendly and very inviting host. Our waiter Brandon was great at handling our group. He was funny, friendly and very attentive. He did not miss a single order and it was exactly what everyone ordered.
Hetty, who handled my reservation enquire, came to introduce herself which was also great.
The food! OMW, it was amazing. I had the chilli prawn starter. If I could have that as a main, I would. It was so good. My main, I had a mushroom melt burger with hand cut fries amd onion rings. That entire meal was delicious. The burger meat, was soft and juicy, the mushroom sauce, amazing and the chips, perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside...Onions tasty and crispy
My other friends, that ate the steak was as impressed with their meals. This was the 1st time this group of people ate at Jackson and Black and they are definitely going back. I was so happy they enjoyed the experience as I chose this restaurant for my friend's surprise 40th birthday dinner...
And the restaurant is neat very relaxed but it also has an elegance to it. We had a perfect spot for a large group. Semi private to the rest of the restaurant. Even the bathroom is so beautifully designed and decorated.
I would recommend this place any day and I will definitely be going back to try something else...
Read moreThird time's the charm? . . . Not quite 🥲 I may just be ultra fussy but I have been to @jacksonandblack_tyger on three separate occasions, and the food was disappointing all three times 🙈
The service was bad the first time, but great the other times.
I do know people rave about the food at this place. Many people LOVE their food. It just so happens that I don't.
Highlights: The chips were crunchy & tasty. The onion rings trump Spur's. The coffee is nice. The frozen Margherita was hella messy but not bad
Well done there!
But ordering a Wagyu beef burger and getting an overcooked, tough patty ... Is not my idea of a treat. Under normal circumstances, a burger patty is made med-rare / medium. This one was well (over)done. Wagyu beef is known for its tenderness so imagine my surprise when I struggled to cut through the patty 🍔 I know this was part of a Monday special at R89 for any Wagyu burger but if that is what you get, I would not say it is worth paying the original R120.
Overall the experience wasn't bad. The taste of the burger was nice. I'll give them that! But the patty is the star of the dish where a burger is concerned, no?
From what I hear, the chicken dishes are really good, and tender. If I do go back, I'll definitely be trying those if I do return.
👉 Please forgive me for the negative review. I'm not trying to give the company a bad name, but I do believe in sharing my...
