Dined twice here. First time the service was extremely slow but our waiter was polite and kept us updated. When the food finally arrived after a long wait one of the sides was missing. We let our waiter know and the issue was rectified so we thought, when it arrived it was cold. Our waiter then proceeded to push us to leave a review on TripAdvisor for the restaurant which I thought was very strange but upon reading the reviews I can see why. Hoping to bump up their star ratings with a few easy review wins at the table whilst the waiter is there.
We decided to give this place a 2nd chance tonight and wow did we regret our decision . We made a booking online for 8:30pm when we arrived on time we were told it’d be 5-10 minutes of a wait by the manager on duty and to wait out of the doorway and on the street. We should’ve left at this point as this was only the beginning of the issues.
We waited over an hour for our food to come and some other tables even longer we overheard the manager saying to other customers I’ll check with the kitchen now, sorry for the wait, we appreciate your patience etc. When our food finally came out it was freezing. The waiter held a napkin against the plates to give the impression that the plates were hot when in fact they weren’t even luke warm. They also again forgot one of our sides. We sent them back with the manager to have “replacements” brought back out within 2 minutes which were even colder than the originals.
The steaks didn’t come out how we ordered them and were tough and chewy. We didn’t finish our drinks or food at this point and we just asked for the bill. The bill took 10 minutes to arrive and another 10 minutes for our waiter to come back with the card reader even though when I asked for the bill I said I’d be paying by card. Oh this wasn’t an honest mistake he was leaving us enough time to mull over the gratuity amount for the lack luster service and disgusting food. The manger never checked back in with us after the issues raised and was MIA from his post at the door which we were seated right beside for the remainder of our time spent there. We were still charged for all of the sides even though the replacements were left behind untouched.
Once the waiter came back with the card reader he opened the book containing the bill and to his utter disbelief saw no gratuity amount and proceeded to input our total on the card reader until he had the audacity to loudly ask infront of other tables are you leaving a tip? Read the room. We just sent back most of our meal and left the rest plus our drinks. So unprofessional. Extremely pushy regarding the tip and his attitude was appalling after I said I wouldn’t be tipping as the meal was beyond disappointing. To which he didn’t even acknowledge just proceeded with the payment.
Speaking to other guests at our hotel and staff we realised we weren’t the only ones who experienced this. I’d avoid this restaurant at all costs as it’s just an overpriced...
Read moreVisited in January 2025. South Africa. Cape Town. We discovered this establishment via a Google search, prompted by a craving for a substantial meat-centric meal. The online reviews were compelling, and coupled with our proximity to the location, it seemed serendipitous that we should dine here. The restaurant's interior is stylishly designed, albeit leaning towards darker tones, which, while perhaps lacking slightly in luminosity for my personal preference, undoubtedly fosters a more intimate ambiance.
The Food:
While the restaurant primarily focuses on meat-based dishes, there is a smattering of seafood options available. We opted for a couple of appetizers followed by our main courses. The panko-crusted avocado was a curious offering, with a taste reminiscent of a potato fritter, though I must admit I generally prefer avocado in its raw form. The Peri-Peri chicken liver appetizer was well-executed; the liver was remarkably tender, melting on the tongue, and free from any extraneous or unpleasant flavors. For my main course, I selected the Wagyu steak. The meat was tender and succulent, although, regrettably, it was slightly overcooked, resulting in the loss of some of its intrinsic juices. Nevertheless, the flavour was robust, meaty and characteristically rich – a hallmark of quality Wagyu. I ordered a side of bone marrow which was an utterly delectable pairing. We also sampled the burger, which featured two flattened patties, sauce, and vegetables. Despite the patties' seeming thinness, we were concerned that they would lack sufficient meatiness; however, we were pleasantly surprised to discover a harmonious and well-balanced flavour profile, and crucially, the patties were blessedly free of any gristle or undesirable sinew, a welcome rarity in burger patties.
Service:
The service was both efficient and cordial. Our waiter was exceptionally friendly and attentive, offering invaluable assistance with our selections, and our overall experience of the service was highly favourable. The food was also prepared and served with commendable expediency.
Conclusion:
This is an admirable meat-focused restaurant, ideal for those seeking well-prepared, high-quality meat dishes within the Bantry Bay area. The restaurant can become rather boisterous, so booking a table ahead of time is advisable. It would be particularly well-suited to an evening out with...
Read moreA hidden culinary gem awaits you at The Promenade in Camps Bay – Bo-Vine! I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this establishment if you're in search of a top-notch steak or meat-centric meal prepared to culinary perfection.
My party and I had the pleasure of dining at Bo-Vine on a leisurely Sunday afternoon, and our experience was nothing short of delightful. We were promptly seated on the deck, offering a picturesque view of the bustling street and serene beach in Camps Bay. The attentive staff immediately offered us a refreshing glass of water and inquired whether we were familiar with their establishment.
Our culinary journey began with an impressive selection of starters, all of which arrived at our table piping hot and impeccably fresh. Our choices included the delectable chicken livers served with a generous slice of ciabatta bread and a mouthwatering fillet carpaccio. To complement our appetizers, we opted for a Margarita and a mocktail Mojito. It's worth noting that while their beverage selection is diverse, they do not offer non-alcoholic beers.
For the main course, we indulged in a selection of prime cuts, all cooked to a rare perfection, and adorned with sumptuous béarnaise sauce. Our choices included the Hangar steak, the Wagyu Primals, and a succulent Fillet, each accompanied by delectable onion rings and crispy chips. The flavors were exquisite, and the meats were impeccably prepared.
As we savored every bite, we couldn't help but contemplate our imminent return to Bo-Vine. However, it's important to exercise caution with your spending, as the quality of food at Bo-Vine does come at a premium. On average, we spent roughly R800 per person for our dinner, inclusive of drinks. Yet, I must emphasize that the experience was worth every cent.
In conclusion, Bo-Vine in Camps Bay is a culinary treasure waiting to be discovered. The meticulous preparation of their dishes and the delectable flavors make it a must-visit for any steak and meat enthusiast. While it may be a bit of a splurge, the overall dining experience and exceptional food quality make it a rewarding choice for those seeking a memorable meal. I, for one, am eagerly anticipating my next visit to explore the rest of their...
