Plant has a prime location on the Camps Bay promenade, but there's much to be desired. Despite being only two of four people in the cafe, we waited far too long for our meals to arrive. The folks who arrived after us got their food before us, and our appetizer arrived after the two mains were almost done. We asked for a takeout box, but had to ask for it back (very kindly boxed for us, but was left in the kitchen).
Food was fine, it's changed a lot since Plant first opened, and not in a good way. The crepe with seitan had some good flavours but the overall experience was quite meh, considering the prices.
While the staff were friendly, the service was extremely slow, with little communication. Paying also took longer than anticipated as the Yoco had to be connected, even though we'd asked for the bill and had clearly finished our meal.
Unfortunately the atmosphere is ruined by obnoxious drivers and bikers who feel the need to blast organ-wobbling music and rev their engines to alert the world to the fact that their parents didn't love them enough. Really spoils a nice location, which is not Plants fault, but it does affect...

I called 3 times to make sure my booking for my birthday was sorted and the tables were organized.
Me and my family get there only for them to be confused about the booking and scramble to push tables together.
They knew it was my birthday and i had asked to make sure everything on the menu was available and ready.
The nachos (which is the best) were off the menu because they didn't have stock , they wanted to buy us woolies nachos instead.
They forgot our orders 3 times! No service in terms of checking up till i had to go fetch someone to sort out the table. Different glassware because apparently they only have 2 types of glasses of each type???
The food was amazing as usual but the staff incompetent, either train them up or check on them OR GET NEW STAFF.
Plant in town is the best place to be, great food and excellent staff, should have rather done my...
Read moreThe menu looked great, we were really excited to try Plant Cafe, but the food was terrible. The buckwheat galette had a dry, cardboard texture filled with a sweet saucy mush that was a sorry excuse for cheese. The croissant was slightly better, but the seitan was again sweet and both dishes were crammed way too full of sweet, caramelised onions. The flavours and textures were just all wrong; this is the kind of food that gives vegan cafés a bad name.
You could do so much better! The food was also delivered in styrofoam containers instead of cardboard, which is a big no from me - especially for vegan places who should be caring more about the environment (one of the reasons many people are becoming vegan in the first place) and when the food is not that cheap. Unless big changes are made, I do not recommend this cafe at all. We could not even finish our food and were...
