Chinchilla by Kove Collection — Restaurant in Camps Bay

The sushi and mussle starters were great, the cocktails tasted like weak cool aid and or liquifruit with trimmings yet we were charged the same amount as a cocktail with alcohol. The mains were terrible and overpriced. My ribeye steak arrived very dry, when i sent it back, it came back with moisture oozing out of it but still not tasting right. Acually the worste steak I've ever had at a restaurant.The sticky ribs tasted like it was put in tomatoes sauce, it was terrible there was no stickiness to it, tasted like tomato breedie ribs. My other friend had the ribeye steak with Prawns, he said it tasted like they had dipped the 5 small Prawns in water and just topped the steak with it. This meal was R640 and not at all worth it or tasty. We were utterly disappointed by our main meals and drinks, I would recommend chinchilla for the awesome view and ambience not for food and drinks. If you have food, stick to the starter and go to Spur, Ashley's or hussar grill for mains. You'll get more value for your money and you will leave feeling satisfied. The waiters took long and the place wasn't that full, some of the sauces like the mushroom and pepper sauce that goes with the steak was only brought a long time after the steak arrived. That's substandard service, honestly. We spoke to the manager but even after sending food back, it was still not good. The waiter also told us about the chefs being new or understaffed - so we the customers must suffer the consequences of that? Wow, a costly consequence for the customer i must say. They told us to write a review, which translates to : we got your money, we don't really care - ok, thank you bye. For the amount of money we spent , the experience truly does not suffice ! Do...

I had an awful experience yesterday the 5th December 2020 at this now trendiest restaurant. I happen to be in Camps Bay with my partner trying to get a place to have lunch, I remembered Chinchilla as I had been there 2 years prior and had enjoyed their signature cocktail ‘the purple haze’. We didn’t have a reservation and were just trying to see if we would get a table. We got in and were accommodated for. The host led us to a table close to the bar and just placed the menus on top of the table, but didn’t say anything to us. We sat down as he was taking care of girls that were already seated at the bar. After 10mins of not being attended to, I had to enquire whether we would be served or not. The person that sat us down informed us that there would be someone that would attend to us. We waited for another 10mins and I again asked if we would be helped. The host at this time was taking the girls that he was assisting at the bar to another table. I just had enough of this bad service and asked my partner if we could leave. I informed host that we were leaving and that their service was beyond poor, that we were going somewhere else rather. Luckily downstairs at Zenzero we had the best service and their cuisine was delicious. I was so disappointed with this service and will never go back to this Chinchilla restaurant. On a beautiful evening, my husband and I spontaneously decided to take a trip to Camps Bay to enjoy some sundowners. From the moment we walked up the stairs to this rooftop establishment, we felt warmly welcomed. We were seated at a sunny spot overlooking Camps Bay Beach. We had two attentive waiters, and all the staff were upbeat with a positive attitude. The DJ played lovely lounge music, creating a great atmosphere. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we decided to stay and order food.

Starters: mussels and beef carpaccio Mains: sushi and calamari (small plate)

I'm going to be a bit of a food snob here, so forgive me. While there was nothing wrong with the taste or quantity of the meals, the presentation was not up to par. The sushi rolls were untidily made, there were broken shells in the mussel dish, and the presentation of the carpaccio was rather childish - with 4 leaves in an X shape and 4 dots of sauce (see photos).

Despite this minor and somewhat silly critique, it won't deter me from returning! I still highly recommend this restaurant! The ambiance and views are wonderful, the service is more than excellent, and the dishes are tasty...
