Between Us
Situated on the upper end of Bree street is this beautiful restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This was my second time visiting, but my first time going for breakfast. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner here, I can highly recommend the risotto. It is so comforting, my only wish was that I was eating it out of a large pot while watching a movie on my couch. But alas, we can’t always have it all. Before I carry on with this tangent, let me get back to my most recent visit.
I met a friend of mine for breakfast last week Monday. We opted to sit on the patio under the trees. It was rather pleasant, and we took full advantage of the weather. I did have a mosey inside and surprisingly it was quite busy. I always wonder why people aren’t at work but then I remember I am there too so I guess it’s possible to do both. I really like the interior of this restaurant. It was nice and cool inside, I’m unsure if it has anything to do with the exposed brick and finishes, but it had a lovely atmosphere.
Anyway, on to the coffee. I ordered an oat milk flat white, they did not have almond milk which is perfectly fine by me. It was silky smooth, rich and deep. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Now, I feel like I’m going to be judged on my order, and rightfully so. It was super basic, but please give me a chance to explain! My go to dinner is Woolworths 100% rye bread, an avocado, and two boiled eggs. If you have not noticed yet, let me break the news to you. Avocados are not in season so they have been scarce. Which resulted in me not having my usual dinner at home. So, when I saw the avocado on rye bread with the option to add two poached eggs (total R125), best believe that is what I am ordering. What arrived was exactly that. Obviously it is not a tricky dish to prepare but it was lovely, there was a generous drizzle of olive oil which I could tell is really good quality. It was also topped with some dried herbs, which did add some extra flavour. I may start adding that to my basic dinner meal. I couldn’t fault it.
Since I ordered something very simple, my friend let me taste his breakfast. He ordered the porridge, and chose the rhubarb caraway compote and cardamom granola option (R90). Let me start by saying that the presentation was everything, and I immediately regretted my decision. It was absolutely beautiful to look at. It honestly tasted as delicious as it looked. The porridge was perfectly cooked and soft with notes of cinnamon. The granola added a good crunch and texture, and the compote was tart and sweet. It reminded me of Christmas, with all those warm flavours. I absolutely loved it, in fact I cannot wait to go back to order this. However, if you don’t like overly sweet and rich food, I wouldn’t recommend this dish. Unfortunately for my friend, he falls into this category. Fortunately for me, he fell into this category so I got to finish it.
Overall, it is a super relaxing yet luxurious experience. The food is incredibly good quality and well executed. The staff were all very warm and welcoming too. I felt very well looked after. I can honestly recommend going for any of the three meal times. You will not be disappointed. Their menu is unique yet simply good food. It is on the pricier side, but I must say that it is good quality and a lovely experience. I cannot...
Read morei m a swallow from Europe for long time now. So seeing a lot of different restaurants in the Western Cape the last 15 years. Your location is nearly perfect. You immediately have the feeling to be in an local restaurant somewhere around the Mediterranean sea. The staff was friendly and helpful and made a good job! But now the downers: dear Jamie and Jess, your menu is very promising but the reality was very disappointing ! The fenel , manchego. , olive salad was really excellent , the more disappointing was the seared tuna . The specific taste of tuna was total lost and there was a taste of old dry fish. Really never had such a poor prepared tuna. My guests had the Beluga lenses. Eatable, but poor preparation.Just boring. Have you ever tasted black lenses indian or malayain style? I myself had the linguine with salmon. The linguine were drowned in a gravy with dill. The salmon dry. What a pity! You never can go wrong with high quality olive oils, butter , parsley and a bit of garlic. By the way , the olive oil we ordered as side dish was from poor quality as well.( it took 5 guests to decide whether it was olive oil or something else.) The size of the portions is best to be described as: clearly arranged! For that quality your restaurant is simply overpriced. Wines prices times 3 doesn't make it better. But nevertheless this is not a slating review! This shall be a constructive criticism. When ever you think that you can do better, and we think you can do better, we are willing to change our minds. Just...
Read moreSo my girlfriend and I was exploring Town. Walking up and down looking for a place to have breakfast. We were walking for about 40 minutes looking for a place that looks nice. After all the walking we decided to get coffees so long in our continued search for a nice place to have breakfast. We happen to stubble upon ' Between Us ' restaurant. Its hidden behind many trees but we were delighted to walk in and see the nice calming atmosphere after all the walking. We were greeted very nicely and told we could pick any table we wanted. We proceeded to choose a table and sat down. The very same waiter who greeted us and told is to choose a table came to us and asked us to leave as we had brought in our own coffees. It was extremely unpleasant and I've never experienced such a situation at any restaurant. No explanation, no understanding just simply we have to leave. I thank you for the experience and now know to never visit you again nor recommend...
