(Great for the partygoers! Nothing during the daytime) Had a one night stay in Cape town and thought of staying somewhere central and convenient. Afterall it's my first time being in cape town CBD, so this does look central on Google map!
As I am not familiar with cape town, I decided to go with Long street boutique hotel after reading many of the reviews. Some of the not so good ones mainly focuses on the music at night, which I am fully prepared for. Being a heavy sleeper and especially after my long flight from Singapore, I managed to sleep like a baby...no fuss! My room happens to face the side street so not much view to rave about... Unless u like to view party people having fun till 630am! Can u believe it? The bed and their soft pillows were just nice for me as well. Only problem was that it felt really really cold at night. It was sooooo cold that I ran into my sheets after coming out of my toilet! (Could have prevented it if I were wearing thicker clothing or some armour!)
BUT.... ALAS! For the room, I chose the queen room with balcony at 40sqm but it feels more like 25sqm inclusive of the balcony. I am very sure they have misrepresented the size.
There's also no water provided... Or is this typical of a boutique hotel in S.africa? You can buy them from the reception though... So not too bad I guess.
There's only a standing shower without the hose, and it can provide some kind of inconvenience to some... again, not big of an issue for me, except that the water pressure happens to be not strong as well.
So can I say this is a good hotel? Can I say this is a great location as some have mentioned? It's all very very subjective but to me...not really... There's literally nothing much around the area during the daytime. I also took a long long walk to find a decent place for Breakfast as well. But if u are a night animal, or partgoer, then yes, this is perfect to slip into your bed after lots of tequila or s.african wine!
And finally, I didn request for a late check out which the staffs were happy to provide me with one, via a R120 per hour charge. It was fair to me... Although I would have hope they had given it to me for free.... Guess I am asking too much as a typical greedy Singaporean!
Overall rating: 6/10 with hits and misses. But my biggest points deduction comes from the misrepresented room size!
So come here if u are prepared for the music and know what u really want out of this location. Am sure u can still have...
Read moreIf you're not on the top floor, this hotel is a con - it's a cheat. The owners are thieves. Because the club directly beneath the hotel thumps something wicked from 4pm in the afternoon till 3am in the early morning. Nonstop. There shouldn't be a bed in the room on the floor above the ground floor because it will jump, it will vibrate. The walls will shake. If you're stuck on this floor, which half of you will be, you should take your mattress and pillow into the hallway, or into the entry room where you'll at least listen to Sport on the TV. And watch the staff behind the desk play with their phone. Where the sofas don't jump to the thump below. There is ZERO chance of sleep in this hotel. They stuck me in room #6 - not facing the street, which like an idiot, I requested. In the interior of the hotel where I hoped for just a little quiet. There's a smile on the staff's face on the way in, but when you pack your bags and depart for another hotel in the middle of the night - to pay twice mind you - the same staff will turn. They don't smile on your way out. There's a note on the wall to call the main office with any complaints. They clearly expect this. The staff behind the desk said they'd follow up with a possible refund. But never did. Of course they never did. I called them back two days later like a moron. And they said, "No refund for you". I said I'd leave an honest review, and this is it. I know Long Street. I know it's a party street. I know the rooms facing the streets will have noise. Everybody knows that. I'd read the reviews of the Long Street Boutique but not all the reviews. If you look closer than me you'll see exactly what I'm bringing to your attention. Pay for the club downstairs before you pay for the Long Street Boutique. At least they're honest. They'll offer you a hookah pipe and a thump, thump, thump for hours on end but never a bed. If you want that - a non-sleep and no hookah - book a room at the Long Street Boutique. They'll happily take your money. And trust me - they will not...
Read moreWe had a great experience at the Long Street Boutique Hotel: We made our booking last minute, based on existing Google reviews and the pictures on their website (first plus: booking on their website was easy). We arrived way too early, at 10 am for a 2 pm check-in, hoping that they could keep our suitcases while we waited and explored Cape Town. The staff welcomed us so warmly and, instead of smoky keeping our bags, they rushed to get our room ready for us, hours ahead of time. The room looked exactly like the pictures on the website: well designed, light and elegant. We were warned during check-in that Long Street is a party street with a lot of clubs and bars, and that it would be a loud might, despite their best efforts. And indeed it was rambunctious in the street, and loud despite the triple glazing of the windows. It might not be the case on week nights or on rooms facing away from the street, I couldn't say. Still, it is a good thing to know if you are a light sleeper. We had a lovely night nonetheless in the massive king bed. In three morning, they even kept our bags while we had lunch outside before heading to the airport. Overall, the obvious care of the staff for the conduit of the clients is what made this experience stand out. I would come back in...
