We had a very unpleasant experience at The Wes during our dinner club year-end gathering—a time when we usually choose a special restaurant where we can splurge. To make the evening more fun, we even dressed up in outfits inspired by the Wes Anderson aesthetic. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations.
It was the night of First Thursdays, and the atmosphere was unbearably loud and chaotic—not at all conducive to a proper dining experience. To add to our disappointment, as soon as we were seated, we were abruptly informed that we could only stay for 1 hour and 30 minutes. While such a policy might have been acceptable with prior notice, hearing it on arrival felt unprofessional and inconsiderate.
The decor does capture a surface-level Wes Anderson aesthetic—quirky, colourful, and stylish—but sadly, that’s where the charm ends. Beyond the visuals, there’s no substance to match the magic of Anderson’s world. If anything, Wes Anderson himself would cringe at the thought of his name being associated with this place. It’s all pretty on the outside, with nothing to back it up inside.
The staff were unprofessional and inattentive. One particularly disappointing moment came with the steak tartare. Its presentation was overly theatrical, but when dished up, it resembled porridge being slopped into bowls—a scene better suited to The Three Little Bears than a fine-dining experience.
The music was also completely out of place—very loud and did not fit the so called aesthetic. To make matters worse, when I asked a waitress where the bathroom was, she questioned whether I was even a guest. This was a bit shocking.
While the food itself was decent, it couldn’t salvage the overall experience. The poor service, chaotic ambiance, and lack of professionalism have ensured that we won’t...
Read moreVery disappointing experience – not worth the hour-long trip. My friends and I booked a table in advance, expecting a smooth and enjoyable meal. When we arrived, they were still rearranging tables and ended up seating us at the back, which already felt like an afterthought. We were given two menus — strangely, with different prices. Unsurprisingly, the cheaper one was taken away immediately with no explanation. We placed our order for food and drinks, but the service was a disaster from start to finish. Our drinks order was taken — and then somehow messed up three times, even though the waiter wrote it down. In the end, our food arrived before any of the drinks, and we were told there was only one barista available, which still doesn't explain why we waited so long. There were no basic condiments provided — no salt, pepper, or sugar. We had to ask twice just to get milk for our coffee. The waitress was rushed, unfriendly, and inattentive, walking away before we could even finish speaking — and the place wasn’t even that busy. To top it off, they added a 12% service charge automatically, which felt like a slap in the face after such poor service. This experience was not worth the travel or the money. Definitely wouldn’t...
Read moreA Missed Opportunity with Potential
I recently visited The Wes and left with mixed feelings. The venue itself is beautifully designed and tastefully decorated, creating an atmosphere that promises a great dining experience. Unfortunately, the rest of the evening didn’t live up to that promise.
Our starters set the tone for disappointment. The mussels were served undercooked in a watered-down sauce, with no spoons or bread to accompany them—basic essentials for such a dish. The steak tartare, prepared tableside, was another letdown. What could have been a polished experience turned into an awkward and chaotic affair, handled by an overwhelmed and clearly overworked waitress. The restaurant seemed severely understaffed, which affected not only the service but also the overall ambiance.
The situation was so disheartening that we decided to cancel our mains and leave after the starters. That said, there was one highlight —the cocktails were fantastic, showcasing the talent of the bar team and were curated to match Wes Anderson’s films.
It’s clear this restaurant has potential, with its stunning interior and creative drink offerings, but the food, service, and overall experience need significant improvement to match the...
