Very nice food and great atmosphere. I went there for dinner on a busy Friday evening. The place was packed but our waitress still managed to get my party of six a table. We ordered pretty much everything on the menu 🤣 (see picture) and I gotta say, everything tasted great. There was not one thing we didn't like and the portions were fair. Stand outs for me were their juicy prawns and crispy calamari. Their chicken was nice too but some pieces were tough, just like their steak cubes. There was live performance that night and the whole place had a great vibe. After a while, they moved some tables away to open up the front of the restaurant into a dance floor.

A very authentic Portuguese restaurant that has been here forever. I think I visited it in 1988 for the first time. At that stage, it had already been an establishment. Good value, generous portions, and well-prepared food. Some surprisingly nice wines on an unpretentious menu. What you see is what you get… nothing over the top but always up to standard. The service can be a bit slow, especially on a Friday afternoon at lunchtime.

A definite local gem in the heart of the city! So much old-world charm is packed into the restaurant that unfolds as the evening progresses. Unexpectedly, our evening with friends and family at Dias turned out as one of our favourite nights out while in Cape Town. The food, the vibe, the setting and the location make it a must visit when you're in town. Tip: Make a booking as it does get busy.

Honestly so disappointed. We find this place, wonderful (tasting) food, good atmosphere, service is friendly and doesn't rush you to gulp down your food to make space for the next patrons, close to home etc.

However, we went there last Monday for some seafood. My girlfriend was HOSPITALISED with Shigella, which is from prepared food with poor hygiene, specifically the fecal-oral contamination, meaning the chef went to the bathroom and didn't wash their hands, then touched the fish. Disgusting and honestly unacceptable, she spent the night in hospital. I hope this is an isolated incident but we have eaten every other meal together and this is the only culprit. Won't ever be going back, as this was a R20k experience with CT scans and a night in the hospital.

Would have loved this not to happen but the owners should really chat to the chef (who I literally watched in the bathroom not wash their hands) and ensure that proper hygiene happens. Coincidence I know but it was 10m before the food was served and I thought it was a janitor or something but the hairnet should have...

We went to Dias Tavern for the first time on Friday as guests at a Birthday Party. We had to wait very long for our drinks order to start off with. The waitress was rude and rushed, almost irritated.

I ordered the Calamari Tubes Main at R150 and my partner the Joe Special (Calamari rings and Trinchado) also at R150.

The Calamari Tubes were delicious but the chips tasted horrible. The Joe Special left my partner upset, disappointed and still hungry (even after I gave him some of my calamari). I had a bite of the Trinchado, which was tough. My partner offered a taste of the Calamari but advised me to rather not as it tasted terrible. My partner NEVER complains about food (in the two years I have known him he has never said anything tasted horrible at a restaurant before).

We never saw a manager to be able to mention this, nor did we want to disclose this to the waitress as we didn't want to upset her even more.

The live music was great and that was the best part of our evening. We will unfortunately not be visiting the...

Arrived early on a Friday night for a dinner service with no booking and got lucky to be seated immediately, although a very small table. Ordered the chicken livers for starters and grilled chicken for main. Portion sizes were extremely generous. A good Portuguese style liver and chicken with the right amount of spice. Dessert was a nightmare, we ordered the tiramisu and what arrived can only be described as a poor quality vanilla ice cream sandwiched between 2 chocolate sponges about the size of a tennis ball. Waiter and host insisted this was the correct order and didn't offer to correct it. Good value for money despite the dessert debacle but don't come here if you're looking for good decor and fine dining. Very busy with a lively atmosphere and...
