Tonight was the second time we had a bad experience with our takeaway and were absolutely disappointed with our order. what a joke to serve tomato sauce with hake and calamari instead of Cajun butter or Tartar sauce. and no rice or chips when the menu gives the option. How disrespectful could a restaurant staff be to a customer with such a shocking service as if they don;t need them back. We used to always get take aways from Foo Jiu and it was ok for the price at the time. The last time we tried Chow Mein and Fried rice a few months ago the food didn't taste even close to what it used to and the quality of everything had significantly dropped. But tonight was even worse when we decided to order Hake & Calamari under "Chefs Favourite". Ordered on the phone and when got there was told the food would be ready in 5 minutes. they only had one more customer and the waitresses and guys in front were busy having their own banter. 15 minutes later found out the food had been ready and no one had cared to check! When got home it was absolutely shocking to see for that had paid R138 for only 6 small over-fried cold sticky dry hard calamari rings, and an oily tasteless piece of hake with TOMATO SAUCE!! was what we had got. On the menu it clearly says for the "chefs favourite" that "all dishes served with choice of Egg rice or Chips". The waitress on the phone didn't even ask nor explained about this and the food came with neither of the options. for the Hake and calamari dish it also says on the menu "served with choice of Cajun butter or Tartar sauce" which again neither came with the food and instead they gave us Tomato sauce! completely unacceptable and disrespectful to a paying customer. I wish the people who work there would care about the paying customer rather than their own matter. We were so put off by the bad experience that didn't even finish the terrible food. All it felt like was a horrible mistake and...
Read moreEarlier in the week my partner and I decided to go for Chinese cuisine. After searching on the internet we came across Foo Jiu in Walmer and gave it a try. What a good decision it turned out to be. The restaurant was fairly busy. The ambience was great and my partner described it as unique. Not too sure what she meant by that but maybe not the type of decor you came across very often. It was certainly a unique experience. We both had a Castle Lite (R26 each) and my partner had a second. It was quite a choice to make seeing that the menu is very extensive. We went for a crispy pork balls (R78) and a sweet and sour stir-fried chicken (R72). Both dishes were served with fried rice. Let me start off with the crispy pork balls. I had this dish before at another venue but I can honestly say that this was a lot better. It was excellent. It was a decent portion and the chunky onion and greenpeppers were crisp. The sauce was served separately and it was very good, enough to soak the rice into. I was very surprised with the sweet and sour chicken, especially when the menu stated that it was stir-fried. Normally stir-fried refers to julienne style meat and vegetables. It refers to ingredients cut into strips. The chicken was, however, also crumbed and served in balls like the pork. The onions and greenpeppers were exactly the same as with the pork balls. The only difference was that the chicken and vegetables were served on the sweet and sour sauce. Maybe that is how the restaurant serves the dish. My partner really enjoyed the dish but I would have preferred the original stir-fried method, without the crumbs and prepared in a wok. The one dessert that caught our attention was the deep fried ice cream (R48). We decided to try one to share. An absolute must. A special thanks to Bongani. The service was good but not intrusive. We will definitely give it...
Read moreAbsolutely appalled by the sweet and sour souce and the service thereafter. For R8 you get a teaspoon full of sweat and sour souce, it is literally a small container filled to a 3rd of the volume. You would require at least 5x for one fried rice meal which makes the sauce almost as expensive as the meal, alternatively you could buy a whole bottle for less which makes no sence.
When confronted it seemed normal and none of the employees could uderstand my point of view and couldn't at least offer me a full mini container as I requested, they just had a take it or leave it attitude. After paying for it I was disgusted and gave the teaspoon full back to them and said that I got no use for that volume, they did not refund me and reacted in a don't care manner.
Foo Jiu Shushi; Your food is great, but your actions and attitude has forever left a "sweet and sour" taste in my mouth and you will therefore never...
