Miller's Thumb — Restaurant in Gardens

As we were visiting from England I contacted the restaurant via WhatsApp and Jane was quick to respond. She kindly booked our table and noted our requests. Jane was so lovely to deal with. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely female member of staff and shown to a lovely table by the window. It was a bit too windy to sit outside as Jane had advised.

The ambience was great, relaxing yet alive with atmosphere. Loved the bright yet cosy decor. Sean who served us was just amazing. From start to finish he was welcoming, friendly and professional. It was also nice that Jane came over to say a friendly hello and tell us the specials of the day. This place has such a welcoming, family restaurant feel to it.

This place was recommended to me by colleagues and I can see why. The food was also incredible, nicely presented and very delicious. They knew it was my birthday so they also sent over a cake with a sparkler. Such a nice touch. Everyone in the restaurant joined in to wish me a happy birthday. Such a lovely vibe here.

Sean was a delight, so nice to chat to and we really enjoyed our whole evening here. It was our last night in Cape Town and just the perfect way to end the trip. I would definitely eat here again and recommend to family, friends and colleagues. Its in an area of Cape Town where the street is full of other cafes and bars if you wanted to go for a drink before or after.

If we could give 7 stars we would truly give so! We don’t even know where to start but what we know is: if you are in Cape Town - this is a place you have to visit! First the place itself has so much soul and love and the staff is just transporting that atmosphere so nicely. A lot of young people who are doing an excellent job! You will find the fresh fish on a board and they have different varieties how to prepare the fish. But even if you are not a fish lover they have a nice very delicious choice for non-fish eater. As a starter we had the Tomate soup and what a soup that was! One of the best tomato soups we ever had. For mains we had different sort of fish and also different prepared. We were a party of six but the food came surprisingly quick and was hot and freshly prepared. By far !!! This was the best fish we ever had in Cape Town or even in our whole life. The quality and fitness each preparation has is out of this world. The dishes are absolutely worth the prices they ask because you get a nice big piece of fish. When we thought it can’t get better the waitress presented us the dessert choices which were not mentioned on the menue and those two deserts are truly Michelin Star deserts. If they do have please try the Gorgonzola cheese with the spicy pears. All in all we can’t rave enough about the Millers thumb. We had the honor to meet the chef and just can say that this place is heaven on earth for a superb fish dish.
