Great place. I'm there once or twice a month. BEST vegetables for 30km in any direction. A selection of broccoli, cabbage, carrots, beans and more.. all steamed to be well cooked and still holding their form and texture. Yummy and if you know me you know I HATE vegetables. But the vegetables I hate the Mostest are the sludgy purè of spinach and pumpkin imitation baby food that most of the lazy proprietors around my part Jhb serve when you ask for vegetables. I particularly like their Steak Egg and chips BUT . .you guessed it....to honour the cook in this great little place I swop the chips for the excellent vegetables. My date had the prawns special and, you guessed right again, the veggies.
Eira Moura may be single handedly be keeping me from becoming malnourished as I avoid the atrocious veggies everywhere else.
They have a great technology implementation too. there's a button on my table which vibrates a wrist band worn by the person serving you, so none of those unbearably awkward times you get in lots of restaurants where you just CANNOT get any of the staff's attention. It's a great proof that they actually care enough about customer service to do something simple and practical to ensure you never feel abandoned and needlessly slowly furious as time drags on waiting for someone to notice you like in many other restaurants.
The cakes and desserts are something GREAT too though bit EXpensive on my budget.
I'll be back and I'd recommend you visit multiple...
Read moreA quick stop for a bite to eat brought us to Eira Moura Portuguese Restaurant & Pub
We knew the food should be good as it's the "sister" restaurant to Casa do Campo - Boksburg (I stand to be corrected)
So as you know I'm on a mission for the best Trinchado and Milho Frito so our waitress Tracy was very knowledgeable on the food etc and so I ordered that with a side of Milho Frito. My sister ordered the Pica Pau - A mixture of meats, steak pieces, chicken fillet, chourico, vienna with pickles on top. and a Irish Coffee.
While waiting on our food we indulged in the Portuguese rolls and their Chilli sauce which has a lekker kick to it 👍🏻
During this time we had a change in waiter to Jonathan due to some unforeseen circumstances, who assisted us until we left. Although the food was nice, I'm not a fan of the watery Trinchado, i prefer the thicker consistency, the Milho frito wasn't bad either. I found the plating a bit awkward since both items were liquidy, a bowl would have been better suited to avoid making a mess. I think Casa Do Campo still has the upper hand.... sorry Eira Moura ☹
It was rather quiet when we were there, hope its picked up now in the new year as they can all use...
Read moreI took out some friends for an early dinner and a long over due catch up.. I suggested Eira Moura because I've been there a few times before and they were happy to try something new. The restaurant did not disappoint! They never have... The food is authentic, well priced, so specially prepared and so delicious, it is definitely one of my favorite places in JHB. All covid regulations are in place so its safe and super clean. As for the staff, wow! I've never experienced bad service there and this time especially, our waiter and his new waiter-in-training were friendly, great to banter with and had no end to their smiles and good energy. We had a few good laughs and it just made the whole experience even better! The only thing I can say is sadly, they were out of their chocolate mousse dessert and if I remember well enough, its so good that I didn't mind they didn't have it because it just gives me another reason...
