I had the unfortunate experience of being referred to Gia's to celebrate my 55th bday with my immediate family of 9. I am a professional person well travelled and have eaten in casual places worldwide. My gfeind had baked a special cake and we decided to make Aperol spritzers with Italian proscetto and took same with us. Upon arrival I was rudely greeted by a Michelle who loudly announced the mininum corkage of R80 per bottle and a cake handling charge too! I would have expected a greeting a happy bday wish and then taken aside to have her express her corkage and cake rules. I requested a single corkage charge as we were all going to have just one glass and a taste of cake whilst ordering substantial breakfast for my all including my father who is an honorary consul in SA. A diplomat. My request was dismissed without consideration. Then we waited an inordinately long time for our hot breakfasts which were eventually served to half of us whilst the rest of us waited. The rest arrived cold and was consumed as my parents were famished by then. I pointed out to Michelle that she has too many rules and no service when the overstated bill arrived. Again no compensation for poor slow service and cold food. Not to mention 160 corkage and we pulled 1 cork. Pity. The place is pleasant and the food has potential. Rather try a more...
Read moreI'll start with the witty menu, because of the pop culture references. Because they missed the opportunity to name the eggs Benedict (Cumberbatch) but if you're old enough you'll get the references to Jane Fonda etc. What a lovely setting for a light meal! We got a table and parasol outside amongst the manicured hedges and grapevines, but you can choose to eat inside the bright and airy cafe if that's more your style. Service is great, friendly and efficient. What really captured my eye was the plating and attention to detail of the food. I haven't seen flower shaped fried eggs anywhere else and the hollandaise sauce on my eggs Benedict was absolutely perfect, in texture and flavour. The atmosphere is definitely giving 'stay as long as you please' as there is a well stocked bookshelf, free WiFi and places for you to plug in your devices. If you're more interested in the nursery, you could spend a few good...
Read moreGia's is a family run restaurant a stones throw from Sandton, but gives the feeling that you are out of the city, with it's beautiful surroundings. The new play area for kids is an epic adventure for your little ones and definitely worth checking out. Fully fenced and with child minders, allowing you to enjoy your meal, whilst knowing that your kiddies have extra eyes on them. Their pizza's and burgers are my absolute best, but I love their breakfasts too and their platters are divine!
I cannot recommend this spot more to everyone; families, girly brunches with mimosa's, first dates or business meetings.
For those chilly winter days, there's also an awesome fireplace to enjoy your pizza and red wine next to.
If you are looking for a restaurant with heart, then this is it! The owners are always on site and happy to help you with any questions or issues which may arise, you just...
