John Dory's The Glen — Restaurant in Gauteng

we went to JD's on the 2nd of September in the evening. we initially wanted to go to ocean basket but decided to try JD's. WORST MISTAKE! on arrival, there was about 5 tables that were occupied, so it wasn't busy. we ordered our drinks and meal at the same time. our drinks arrived 15mins later which was very shocking since these drinks were nothing special or fancy. we ordered cocktails but they tasted like mocktails. we couldn't find our waitress to complain, until i actually located her at the door. i told her about our alcohol free drinks and she got what looked like her manager, to which when we informed the manager about our drinks, she immediately defended herself and drinks telling us that its impossible that these drinks don't have any alcohol because she actually prepared the drinks herself. She then went on further, jokingly, to say that maybe we cant taste the alcohol coz we might be heavy drinkers like herself(that didnt sit well with me). so she decided to give us a shot of vodka to share between the two of us. my partner decided to order another drink which was a simple double gin an tonic. that took 10mins. our food came shortly after. at that point we were too frustrated to even enjoy our food. our waitress didnt come to check up on us, to ask if we are enjoying our meal etc. Service was poor and ridiculously...

Had a lunch on Tuesday, area was quiet and peaceful. Waiters were friendly, our waiter always came to check on us which was great. Food and drink came out fast, I like there milkshake (better than ocean basket). We ordered a platter for 4(around R580), the meal looks like it can full 2 persons and if split between 4 you might still be hungry. The calamari strips needs to be fried longer as it wasn't crispy(soggy), hake was good but the color of the batter looks like it needs cleaner frying oil. Prawns were ok as the meat sticks to the shell and indicates its freshness. The chips were good, rice was ok. The whole platter was a bit salty but ok if you can handle salt. After the meal you will need to sip on water. Overall great restaurant and staff. Just lost 1 star for some of the little things that could be improved....

We decided to celebrate our nephews birthday at John Dorys on Wednesday for half price Sushi. We sat down and waited for 2 hours for food which never even came. Other people received their food before us which just made things worse. Service is beyond terrible and I cant believe that we waited so long and not just walk out. I was so upset that I didn't even want to pay for our drinks because of the time we wasted but we eventually we did without eating. I wont recommend John Dorys the Glen. I wasn't going to write this review because I felt bad for the manager but I have to be honest and hope that they can up their game. They cannot have two Sushi chef's on a night that they running a special. I will never go back to John Dorys the Glen even for the special. Nephews birthday spoiled, time wasted and...
