1 Star – Serious Food Safety Violation and Deeply Disappointing Experience !
We were extremely disappointed with our experience at My Pot. Our total bill came to over R700, which is a premium price — yet what we received was far from acceptable in terms of quality, hygiene, or value.
The most alarming issue was that the majority of the prawns had their digestive tracts still inside and were not cleaned properly. This is not a minor oversight — it is a serious health and food safety violation. The digestive tract of shellfish can contain harmful bacteria, toxins, and parasites, and consuming it poses a significant health risk, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
This shows a complete disregard for standard food preparation protocols. Any qualified food safety inspector would consider this unacceptable, and it would likely be in direct violation of health regulations. For a professional kitchen to serve seafood in this state reflects extremely poor hygiene practices and a lack of basic food handling knowledge.
To make matters worse, the rest of the food was bland and unremarkable — nowhere near the standard expected for the price — and even drinks were served without ice, suggesting a general lack of care across the board.
This was not just a disappointing meal — it was a potential health hazard, and we are extremely concerned that this is being allowed to happen. We expect a formal response from management, as well as a full refund or suitable compensation. More importantly, we urge the restaurant to immediately review its food handling procedures before someone falls...
Read moreNightmare experience with a group of friends. While the concept of hot pot might be ideal for smaller groups, our large party encountered several issues. When we arrived we were sat down then left waiting for an extended period with no service or explanation. We eventually discovered it was a self-service ordering system, which would have been helpful to know upfront. The wine glasses we requested arrived as dirty champagne glasses. The food itself presented further challenges. Dishes arrived sporadically, with some items missing entirely. There was minimal guidance on cooking the ingredients, adding to the confusion. To make matters worse, our hot pot stove malfunctioned. While we requested a table change, the solution offered was a temperamental manual gas burner. Throughout the evening, the manageress/owner we interacted with, who seemed to be juggling multiple roles, displayed a dismissive attitude. When we politely expressed our disappointment, she became defensive, focusing solely on the initial explanation of cooking (which wasn't the only issue) and offering no apologies for anything. Overall, this experience fell short on all fronts. From the lack of communication to the malfunctioning equipment and the disappointing service, it was a frustrating night. I will never return here and don’t recommend it to anyone, rather go to Yamakado in the other part of the restaurant which is cheaper, easier and actually has service. This was hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had -...
Read moreSuch an awesome hidden gem (it's located through Yamakado, at the back)! I feel like some of the reviews on this place are unfair - whole point of a hot pot is an interactive DIY experience, also you make the food as tasty or as bland as you like, so if you aren't prepared to make sauces, etc then you will have bland food. Please don't go here if you're looking for a quick meal - it's a very social experience and the pace is slower than it would be for a regular restaurant. I've had multiple hot pots and this place for me has been one of my favourite experiences, by far. Cannot wait to return for another eat at your own pace experience!
Ps. The spicy hot pot is hot, even for experienced chilliheads - please don't add anytype of chilli oil/sauce/crushed, etc. to your sauce bowl, it has been known to hurt...
