The location is excellent - cannot fault is. The host is super friendly and willing to help with anything. ||Unfortunately the overall rating for this guest house cannot be more than a "nearly average" - parking is insufficient in this small yard. ||It appears that the vehicle garages were transformed into guest rooms. Access to the the bathroom is through the kitchenette which is not a good idea - a door could easily be put in from the bedroom.||||Overall impression was that the rooms were furnished from hand me downs - stuff you would get in a Charity shop.||I fell asleep after 3 am only because I was exhausted. I was horrified that the single bed as advertised for an adult turned out to be a small settee with the back rest collapsed. On top of this was an over-used soft foam mattress that has seen better days. The section below the pillow was so soft that all you could feel was the hard settee used as a base and you could feel the ridge of the head rest. I was extremely disappointed that I was led to believe I would have a single bed. This is more suitable for use by a child under 5 years.||||The bedding was old - it seems all the old, used beds and bedding from the house is used for guests - even the pillows were of uneven size and quality. There was a light duvet and an old blanket on the beds and no extra blankets in the middle of winter in Johannesburg.||||Complimentary tea, coffee and only light brown sugar - no white sugar. Complimentary milk sachets but not enough - we were 3 persons with 2 sachets.||||Kitchen staff need to work faster and give guests what they need (3 of us) - 3 fried eggs, 6 rashers of bacon, 3 slices of tomato and a helping of fried mushrooms took them longer than it took us to make and drink our tea, make and eat our toast and eat our yogurt. I asked for soft egg - got a medium hard egg.||||TV reception was good, bedroom...
Read moreI booked my stay here on the recommendation of a friend, mostly due to its central location in the Joburg Northern suburbs and good access to the freeway. My room was very small, especially the bathroom. The room fittings were ok, not great but not too bad. The TV was tiny with a poor picture, I got the impression that it was really only there to tick a box on the sales brochure. There is free internet though, so that made up for the poor TV. The food was ok, once again nothing special. On the plus side the manager is friendly and helpful so if you need local information he would be able to give good advice. So all in all not a bad option for a night but certainly nothing special to...
Read moreComfortable and convenient stay at Old Umtali Guest House We had a great stay at Old Umtali while in Johannesburg for work. The location was ideal and close to where we needed to be throughout the week. The owner and staff were warm and welcoming, and breakfast each morning was a lovely start to the day.
What really stood out was the attention to detail: having a hairdryer and shampoo in the room was a thoughtful touch, especially when travelling for business. The room was also equipped with a microwave, fridge, and electric kettle, which made late evenings after work much easier. A comfortable and well-equipped spot for both business and...
