Terrible Experience at Spur Thunder Ridge
We have always alternated between Spur Thunder Ridge and the Spur at Centurion Lifestyle Centre, but after todayās experience, we will never return to Thunder Ridge.
I visited with my husband and our 3-year-old son, and the experience was absolutely shocking. My husband ordered the Lazy Aged Steak, requesting it to be done medium. The first steak came out overcooked and chewyānot even close to medium. We flagged this with the waiter, who brought the manager over. While the manager did offer us a menu to order something else, my husband explained that the issue wasnāt with the cut of meat but the way it was prepared, so he requested a new steak, done medium.
When the second steak arrived, it was inconsistently cooked: well-done in some spots, rare in others. Frustrated but trying to remain patient, my husband decided to order something else instead. At this point, the manager shocked us by rudely telling us to pay the bill and leave, claiming we had āwasted two steaks.ā
To make matters worse, my son was still eating his meal when we were told to leave. I am also 8 months pregnant, and being treated with such disrespect was appalling. The manager refused to provide his name, making the situation even more unprofessional.
I immediately called Spurās customer line to lodge a complaint, and while they assured me they would investigate, I am deeply disappointed that this happened in the first place. We have always trusted Spur for family-friendly dining, but this experience has left us feeling completely unwelcome.
We will not be visiting any Spur again, and I strongly advise others to think twice before visiting Thunder Ridge. This was, by far, the worst dining experience...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAh, Spur! Just the name conjures up that familiar, comforting aroma of sizzling grills and the happy buzz of families. For me, Spur isn't just a restaurant; it's woven into the fabric of so many South African memories. From birthday celebrations with boisterous singing and that iconic chocolate volcano, to casual family dinners where the kids could run off to the play area while the adults actually had a conversation ā Spur has been the backdrop to countless joyful moments. There's a certain unpretentiousness about Spur that I truly appreciate. You know exactly what you're going to get: generous portions of reliably tasty food. That juicy, flame-grilled steak, the crispy onion rings, the creamy cheese sauce ā these are the flavors of comfort food, done right. And let's not forget the Spur burger! Itās a classic for a reason. Beyond the food, it's the atmosphere that keeps me coming back. It's lively, it's welcoming, and it's unapologetically family-friendly. The sound of laughter, the clatter of cutlery, the friendly waitrons ā it all contributes to a uniquely South African dining experience. While the menu might have evolved over the years, that core Spur spirit, that sense of warmth and familiarity, remains wonderfully consistent. Spur Steak Ranches: āāāā½ My love for Spur runs deep. It's more than just a place to eat; it's a nostalgic touchstone, a reliable spot for a good meal and good times. It represents a slice of South African culture and a whole lot of happy memories. Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was there to celebrate my son's 4th birthday, this was the 3rd birthday were celebrating there this year only, my boys love the play area but this time around the birthday party ended in tears as two of my boys were bullied by another child that was there with her family.
When my kids returned crying i went to the play area to find out what the problem was, requested for the manager to come and the father of the child that bullied my kids turned out to be a bully himself by dismissing that my kids were bullied and he said that in Afrikaans thinking we couldnt hear him.
The manager tried to calm me down and offeres us drinks but if it was the other way around and my kids bullied that white girl they probably would have chased us out because the managers concern was more about keeping me quiet because me being angry was disturbing other guests while the parents of the bully continued eating their meals in peace.
I took 2 weeks before i could write this but it is not sitting well with me that the family of the bully was allowed to continue sitting in the restuarant to continue with their meal in peace while i had to confort crying kids, one of the kids bullied was 2 years old and in total i had 10kids with me.
I will never set foot there ever again, i will find a different restuarant for our...
