Read moreWe promptly arrived at 7.30, we had requested an outside table, however we were sat inside, with this we did not complain, as we noticed it was full and this can happen. To start with I requested still water.. it took 15m and the need of me calling a manager to get an answer that they were expecting delivery of waters. They mentioned they would offer us sparkling water on the house. We ordered our food, edamame and some variety of sushi. The sushi itself has an excess of Mayo.. one of the plates we ordered MediterrAsian Crunch is simply flavorless, you can only taste the fried rice. I did enjoy the take on the mini hand rolls, however again, excessive teriyaki sauce. The need to fill sushi with mayo and teriyaki sauce is horrid as it takes all the flavor out. But again, I do understand the South Africans love the sushi like this.
The menu itself is not that exciting, I feel the sense of mediterrânea and Asian is lost with lamb chops, tomahawks and grilled prawns the typical you find in any restaurante. Sushi options are also basic, you just need to add pizza on the menu as well to be like the other hundreds of restaurants around Joburg with lost identity. The wine list while it has some good French wines like the Whispering angel and some Elgins that are not so common it is very basic. For a med / Asian restaurante I was expecting a bigger variety, not even Sake or proper med wines.
Moving back to the service, our waiter performed poorly, very slow, did not even remove empty plates and unfriendly. And at the end we still paid for the 2 bottles of sparkling water, so no sense of sticking to their word.
Regarding Ambience, it is extremely noisy, decor is cute, but nothing different than other restaurants around.
All in all, I did not enjoy the experience and I don’t feel the need to return as there was no WOW factor as per all the reviews I had read on...
Read moreThe staff were excellent, we had Sandile look after us.
From the beginning to the end the food was a huge dissapointment. We ordered the tempura prawns for starters, what was brought to us was not tempura prawns, they were prawns with panko. The prawns had a very fishy smell, which can only mean that they were not cleaned properly.
For mains we both had the "crispy" lamb chops, medium well. The chops arrived two cooked to death and two far from crispy, all four were well done. The chops also had chilli on them - there is no mention of this on the menu. Sandile took the two flobbery chops back to the kitchen. I had a bite of one of the charred chops, but the chilli over powered the lamb. The lamb had a very strong smell, indicating that they had not been rinsed and dried off before cooking. To add insult to injury, the chops were tough and knives were blunt.
By the time Sandile brought the two chops back to the table after having had the kitchen "crisp" them up, I had lost interest and asked for the chops to be packed as a take away - I wouldn't eat them at home either but they were expensive so I'll most probably give them to my dogs.
The chips that we ordered looked great, but disappointed as well, I think I managed 5 chips.
The tender stem broccoli looked cooked to perfection, but also had chilli on them and some other scraps they looked like slivers of garlic and tasted very strong and killed the broccoli.
We then shared a piece of cheesecake. The base was soggy and the caramel looked like something that came out of a tube. It all looked very nice but the taste was more than dissapointing.
Don't worry, I will not be going back or recommending the restaurant to anybody.
What a dreadful waste of money and time. Not sure who gave the awards to the restaurant??? Maybe it was family and friends.
Wishing you all the best...
