During our stay in Plettenberg Bay, we had the privilege (& I mean privilege) to eat twice at Barringtons. Both times was in the evening so I can’t comment on their daytime meals. We had a table right next to the roaring fire & it was the perfect spot. Not so perfect for the people sitting near the door which was constantly opening and closing. They were frozen by the end of the evening. First up - value for your buck (& food) is their current winter 2023 dinner menu. 3 courses for R245 without a glass of wine & R300 with wine. There is also a choice of a 2 course meal. Our first meal there, we chose the 3 course meal (without wine) & chose all the vegetarian options. Pear & blue cheese salad to start for me (enough for 2 persons) & the most sublime potato & leek soup for him. Main course was excellent melt in your mouth beer battered fish - 2 generous pieces & excellent thick cut chips. Partner had the Thai red curry which was packed with fresh veggies, beautifully presented & deemed excellent & filling. They had run out of chocolate brownies so we settled on the sticky toffee pudding (very sweet but served without ice cream which would have complimented the dish) & a delicious Amarula Dom Pedro. I can highly recommend the winter special as value for money. The 2nd meal was Dahl spring rolls (dish of the day in my opinion) & sumac roasted cauliflower. Main was tagliatelle with mushrooms & thyme - excellent! Dessert was the chocolate fondant which made all the calories worth it. Ambience of Barrington’s is social, loud and with the beer factory to greet you when you walk in the door makes it an overall highly recommended restaurant to eat at. A special mention to the manager on the floor both evenings who welcomed us back as long lost friends. Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. I recommend you check out their website to see what is on offer but a trip to Plett will never again be without eating at Barrington’s numerous times. I can’t recommend this spot enough. Edit: they also offer Friday night burger & beer nights & movie with dinner nights. Both of these evenings need to be booked beforehand and the manager assured me they were full house on...
Read moreLet me briefly explain how great this place is: Consider that you have got yourself a rental; zip-zap across towns, villages and different bay areas, you would come to enjoy the driving experience. And, if you have a loving wife, she would always point out shops and places along the way that do seem very, very interesting - this is where she would potentially point out Barringtons during your spectacular cruise.
In the beginning you’ll see an abundance of greens accommodating the entrance of the restaurant, deliberately stating that: YES, WE GROW OUR OWN STUFF - and we will cook it to your unbelievable expectations which is very easy for them to exceed..
My wife’s second go-to hobby is gardening, just right after her passion of bakery. The place is almost an amusement park for her, kind of like Disney Land for me. As you walk inside the restaurant you won’t miss the warm welcoming staff. The place is quite the exhibition; however, it does feel cozy, as well. My wife’s observation at first is that we feel like we are in a movie, or so starring in someone else’s movie. Inside you get to see all what they have to offer, from assorted good bakes, and products that you will absolutely be convinced that it is hard to find - notwithstanding the gardening products: seeds, plants, etc. (things you can help yourself to grow at home).
Even if you have had a tough day, this place is a mood changer! The place is exhilarating when the sun is out, and magical upon sunset.
We ordered the steak tartar, burgers and many delicious stuff on the menu, and we came to have breakfast the day after! No spoilers, come here yourself and I think the enjoyment is guaranteed.
Special thanks to Xoli, keeping us well-fed, and her kindness is...
Read moreWhen we travel through Plett, we always look forward to having a great meal at Barringtons.
Unfortunately our last experience was a bit of shocker, which I would have preferred to give to management personally, however her left just before we left, so I'm hoping this review would get his attention. He was an incredible host, and alway assisting, however I didn't want to bring this situation up infront of all the workers.
TLDR: Barringtons isn't a Co-working space. 🙈
Full Story: We arrived around 3pm to grab an early dinner after beautiful hike in Robberg. Only to find all the cosy seating by the fire place taken up by people working. We actually felt like we were intruding in someone's office and felt very out of place. There was only people working and no-one dining? However we saw two ladies seated outside in the cold.
I completely understand working in restaurant, however this seemed to be a whole company of 4 people all taking up individual tables. On top of that, they were all constantly on the phone or talking to each other, as one would when in an office environment. They walked past us all the time when we trying to have a romantic dining experience. I completely understand the opportunity to work remotely, I have been doing it for 10 years+. However they where running a full office with external monitors and on the phone continuously which in this beautiful setting is quite rude.
I can consider this almost acceptable at a coffee shop, but not at at restaurant such as Barrington's, that we easily rack up bills of around ±R1000 between 2 people.
We hope to come back again since we love the food, however I wouldn't want to share my meal with an office again and would...
