I sent a private email 02 December regarding meat in our takeaway vegetarian dish. 12 days later and I still haven’t heard back from them. Here is what I sent them:

To whom it may concern,

My wife and I have been supporters of La Capannina for some time now. It is for this reason that I am writing this mail instead of posting a review on a public forum.

Tonight we ordered our usual vegetarian takeaway options of Pasta Verde & Ravioli Malanzane. Unfortunately, in the Pasta Verde, we found pieces of chicken. I don’t think it was a mistake on the waitress’ part as they were small pieces, not as much as one would expect in a meat dish.

I am quite disappointed and feel disrespected. My wife and I choose not to eat meat, but we do not expect anyone to agree with our decisions, nor do we force our choices on others. However, when a paying customer requests a vegetarian dish, care should be taken to ensure that that is what is delivered.

My aim with writing this mail is not to gain anything, but rather to advise and warn that these type of business practices may harm you in the long run. We love your food and want to see your business thriving for...

It was amazing. There is nothing generic about the food here. Every item on each plate received time and attention and was well thought out.

My son said it was the best pizza he has ever had(and kids eat a lot of pizza). Missed a pic of hubby's food but both his and my main were delicious. Melt in your mouth meat accompanied by well seasoned risotto and veg. Dessert was divine as well. We both have leftovers mains to enjoy.

Portion sizes are well worth the price. There are things on the menu to suit all budgets which is a bonus.

We were served by the amazing Steph, who shared the history of the place and gave us insight into the talented chef behind our meals and the dessert queen (her words exactly😁). We also have a very active 2 year old and he was welcomed and entertained which made us feel comfortable. We had a table away from other diners which is the kind of family friendly attentive staff which ensures the place definitely will get repeat customers.

Lax service (our order was taken 36mins after arrival, pizzas arrived an hour after arrival - had to request a take away as we had far to go. Manageress told us ingratiatingly that everything was homemade from scratch (and then rudely discussed us with the pizza chef, within earshot) Waitress later told us that the oven was still cold. The window to the pizza kitchen was very revealing: lax Covid protocols - masks worn under chins and noses, removed completely when chatting. Bill was very high, but didn't question it - just wanted to get out of there... noticed at home that one of the pizzas was just under R200! Because my partner had asked to substitute an ingredient, I was charged for a Margarita and each ingredient separately (eg. R34 for rocket, R30 for avocado) I Regret leaving a tip. We left dissatisfied, felt unsafe and the pizzas were mediocre and undercooked - no flavour in the sauce (we did notice that it was just blended in a liquidiser, from a can).
