The Hussar Grill George — Restaurant in George

What an amazing experience we had! We live in Plett and our eldest daughter had a function in George as she is in school there....we decided to take our youngest to George and see a movie and then have a meal in order to pick our daughter up after 10....the movie ended up to be EXTREMELY LONG....and walking out at 9h24 we were just shunned away from every restaurant at the Mall....drove closer to the venue we had to pick up our daughter and famished, we saw that Hussar was still open....walked in the door 2 minutes before the kitchen closes and the girl at the door said to the kitchen staff to not put anything off....they were fully booked that night and obviously tired....but they were still caring and wanted to be of service to us. I was flabbergasted that they even let us in! The waitress was so helpful and patient and the food came out so quickly and was amazing!!! 10 stars to this place and the people that work there! We returned after eating in the Hermanus Hussar grill a few days ago, but found the experience in George much less impressive.

The food was still pretty good - I had the chateaubriand which was extremely tender and juicy, however there was a lingering quite strong alcoholic taste from the watery sauce on the plate.

My husband had the ostrich fillet, which was a little dry and not as soft as the beef - but this may just be the way ostrich is as we have never tried it before.

I asked for a glass of wine with my food and they didn't come with the wine until I had finished my steak, so I just sent it back. Found the servers a little pushy in terms of trying to upsell and give you starters/desert/cocktails.

The gratinated corn and mash were lovely, but the sweet potato and creamed spinach were a bit cold and the spinach watery/undercooked. We had this in Hermanus and it was absolutely delicious!

Enjoyed the complimentary dessert cocktail again which helped redeem the food...
