The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every dish bursts with bold, thoughtfully balanced flavours, showcasing the kitchen’s skill and the chef's attention to detail. We opted for a selection of small plates, and the kitchen masterfully timed their arrival in perfect pairings, transforming the experience into a beautifully curated meal.
The special of the day—pork dumplings—was nothing short of magical, packed with rich, deep flavours that left us wanting more. Other highlights included the skewered prawn bao, complemented by an addictive lime & coriander sauce (that's saying something as someone with an aversion to coriander!), and the slow-braised hoisin beef short rib bao, which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The broccoli-sesame-miso dish was a surprising standout, full of sweet and umami goodness. We rounded things off with sides of egg-fried rice and kimchi, both executed to perfection.
Unlike many non-Asian restaurants that serve generic "Asian-inspired" dishes where the flavours blur together, Bao Down excelled in creating distinct, well-balanced combinations that celebrate the diversity of Asian cuisine. Each dish was carefully crafted, allowing the ingredients to shine in harmony rather than overwhelm the palate.
The atmosphere and decor are chic yet inviting, making it a perfect spot for a date night or an evening out with friends. With its exceptional service, incredible food, and thoughtfully curated flavours, Bao Down is a must-visit. Highly...
Read moreWow! The superb, very attentive and speedy customer service that I experienced yesterday evening at Bao Down is even better than what I experienced at some of the world's top best 5 and 6 star hotels in Dubai etc. Go to Boa Down regardless of the excellent food just to enjoy the superb and excellent attentive customer service like you have never experienced the likes of before. The owners clearly try really hard to achieve superb excellent attentive service for their customers and clearly have their act together and hence they have a recipe for success in the restaurant industry and indeed not only just good food recipes. One final important recommendation is that many other people have cottoned to the above mentioned and hence the high popularity now of this great restaurant which is usually always fully booked each night, so book if you want a seat to enjoy a delightful fabulous...
Read moreThe food was sensational, the sweet potato boas were the best by far, never had anything like it. The prawn toast was on par with Merivale’s in Sydney, maybe better with the garlic not being as over powering! The service however… I’m not sure if it’s because I’m not use to the SA way of things, but I don’t understand how we can sit there for over 10 minutes waiting for our order to be taken, making eyes with whom I assume was the manager, but obviously ignored simply because it’s “not their section”. When we did ask some one to take our order they had to get the attention of our actual server. ( Who I saw taste/slurp the cocktail they made out of the palm of their hand…. ) and then at the end of the meal asked us to tip more than what we felt comfortable with because “gratuity is not included”. Overall, FABULOUS MEAL, not fabulous...
