Jason’s Bakery – Bustling with Vibes, Good Coffee, but a Bit Overhyped
Jason’s Bakery has a great energy. It’s buzzing, festive, and full of life, especially on weekends. There’s both inside and outside seating, making it a fun, casual spot for a brunch catch-up or a solo coffee stop.
Coffee The coffee was excellent. I ordered a flat white with almond milk (R42 + R15 for almond), and it was smooth, rich, and well-made. Definitely one of the highlights for me and a good reason to stop by.
Food I opted for the SCRAMBLED (R75), which comes with oven-roasted rosa tomatoes and rocket on sourdough. I added mushrooms on the side, but at an extra R50, I was honestly shocked by the price given the small portion and underwhelming flavor.
The sourdough itself was a standout. It was crispy, fresh, and clearly of great quality. Unfortunately, the rest of the dish fell a bit flat. The scrambled eggs were decent but lacked seasoning, and the tomatoes and mushrooms could have used a lot more flavor to stand out. I found myself reaching for the salt and Tabasco to bring the dish to life. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it didn’t blow me away, which was a letdown considering all the hype surrounding Jason’s Bakery.
Final Thoughts The vibe is great, the coffee is excellent, and the bread is top-notch. But for the price, I expected more from the food, both in terms of portion size and flavor. Maybe I caught them on an off day or had my expectations set too high, but overall, it was just good, not extraordinary. I’d definitely return for the coffee and to try something else on the menu, but I’ll skip the...

The Wi-Fi allowance is a meagre 200MB, which lasts about 15 minutes. My food took longer than that to arrive.
Despite a previous poor service experience, I decided to give Jason’s another chance and work from here after a year of staying away.
I am appalled by the manager's inflexibility regarding my request to please use their other WiFi connection. There were only 13 customers, it was 30 minutes before closing, and I was the only one with a laptop. She could have been more accommodating. Instead, she insisted on their policy of turning tables. Their priority is clearly not customer comfort. I think I would have preferred a ‘sorry I don’t have a password to that network than a sorry we want to turn tables.’
This really inconvenienced me. I was deep in the middle of getting work done before the end of the day on a Friday and was forced to leave to find another place to work. Instead of staying for another coffee and perhaps a nice slice of cake, I had to relocate.
I WON’T remember the delicious meal I had here; I will remember this unpleasant experience. I won’t be returning. Although the food is excellent, this is the second time I’ve encountered exceptionally poor customer service from a manager who should never claim...
Read moreVery bad experience and service...firstly as we were given a table and walking towards it after the person had delegated to the other waiters, the manager decides to chip in and give the table to other customers who were already at a table. After sitting for 10 minutes, I got up and started looking for a waiter to serve us and even just give us a menu..food establishments in Cape Town can’t use the excuse “we’re busy” anymore...as all different places are always busy or full. But eventually when a waiter decided to give us the time of day, literally every single thing we pointed to, whether it was sweet, or pastry, or lunch was unavaible??? Surely provision is made to make sure there is enough stock/food to serve customers without running out by lunch?? The only item available from the menu on the sweet side was the two cheese cake slices,of which one was the Jack Daniels...but after seeing the size and the price you charge..I’d suggest going back to the drawing board, you may not agree, but asking almost 50bucks for a half sized slice of cheese cake is just crazy. As a suggestion, maybe sort out the communication between your manager, what looked to be a floor manager/host, and the waiters...so that the clients don’t feel like idiots when...
